TCP2 Converter is a network device used in document management solutions to enable multi-function and standalone printers which do not have bi-directional communication to the print server. This allows authentication using USB and RS232 devices such as the Elatec TWN4 MultiTech reader and other devices including numeric pin pad, magnetic stripe, and barcode readers. TCP2 Converter contains a network router which enables the connected printer to communicate with the document management solution. The authentication device and the printer are connected directly to the TCP2 Converter which transmits authentication data to the print server to release the print job. A unique feature of the TCP2 Converter is that it requires only a single IP address to connect the authentication device and printer. For customers which outsource their IT support, this approach can eliminate incremental costs associated with network converters which require two IP addresses.
