Q: Can this be used with a TopFin 10 filter?

Thank you for your question Benjamin, but no, not that we know of, except possibly for the very old Top Fin filters.

Q: Whats the purpose of this item in the tank?

This is a bio foam. It is a type of biological media that allows beneficial, nitrifying bacteria to grow in the tank and help filter nitrogenous by-products out of the water. You rinse it out once a month, approximately, by using water you remove from the aquarium during a water change. For more help, email petsupport@spectrumbrands.com.

Q: Do i need this for my filter? Is this is an item that I absoultely need for my tetra filter or can I just leave it out?

You can leave it out bre, if you really feel you need to, but this is the biological filter that comes with your filter system. So without it, when you toss your cartridge, you will be removing the only biological filter you have in the filter system. You will still have bacteria through out the gravel, on the decor, in the water, etc., but not much in the filter system itself. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Q: I forgot to put the biofoam inside the filter while setting up a 10 gal. Is this deadly for my fish? Because they're dying right after put the inside.

I'm sorry to hear about your fish loss, Jasmin! No, there are no toxic chemicals or materials in this product. If you added more than one fish to start your tank you either have a high ammonia or nitrite level due to the cycling of the tank. These are toxic to fish which is why it is recommend to add fish very slowly. Do a 50% water change, add AquaSafe Plus and SafeStart Plus. Test the water frequently. You can also add aquarium salt at a rate of two tablespoons for the initial dosing then dose the proper amount for the amount of water you change.
