Keep one on hand!
Ordered this preemptively as a replacement for the notoriously finicky FV sensor on my Rheem water heater. Previously the FVS reset procedure had worked for me and delayed the inevitable. The replacement is as easy as taking off a cover, removing the sensor from its housing, unhooking a couple of wire leads, and then reversing the process. If you have a multimeter it can be useful to check the resistance to make sure that the sensor has actually failed but if the reset procedure hasn't worked then it's probably a pretty safe bet that it's bad. This genuine FVS sensor from Rheem is more expensive than other compatible FV sensors but as troublesome as they are I think going with a cheaper knock-off would be even less confidence-inspiring.

My water heater had 7 blinking lights
I had a gas leak in my garage so we had to shut the gas off for a few days until the HVAC company repaired the leaky pipe. When everything was set and done my water heater would not restart it had 7 blinking lights. I contacted my HVAC company they came by and said that every was good to go, but I still didn't have any hot water. I went to check the water heater for myself and noticed that it wasn't even plugged in. I plugged it back in and waited the minute like I saw on YouTube and did the switch from low to high 7 times to reset it and nothing happened. I have a Rheem water heater I think it's made by Honeywell. I decided to buy this fuel sensor replacement because a YouTube video suggested it. I was running out of options it was going on 2 weeks without hot water having to boil some for showers. I decided to give this a try. I replaced the sensor myself I'm a mom of 5 by no means am I an expert . I then plugged the water heater back in after replacing the sensor and turned it to medium heat, turned it on ,then turned it down to low. From there I went up to high and down to low 7 times and my water heater kicked on! The piolet was on after 2 dreadful weeks. This fuel sensor and some prayers did the trick! Thank you Lord!

it worked
The vapor sensor arrived quickly. The Rheem water heater vapor sensor easily came out just like the capsule that holds the packaged vapor sensor. The cable that is associated with the water heater sensor easily came off with pliers. I had needle nose pliers. You compare the two vapor sensors they looked alike and then you just push the cable female adaptors on the prongs of the vapor sensor. This was difficult so you look at the location of the prongs and the very limited space of the cable prongs. Once, you have them aligned and feel it grab the prongs by hand you just apply a small force to push them on the new sensor. The capsule that holds the sensor easily shoves back into the water heater and then you do the turn on sequence of the water heater and it works. I had 7 blinks complete shut off and it was so nice to see the water heater start up and never had a problem with the heater from the installation. The key to water heater is the seven turns of the heating nob back and forth 7 times to release the shut off of the water heater. You can see it done on you tube. That is the critical step to release the lock out.

Does what it’s supposed to, have to have it so this is a good one to buy.
Fixed our issue, easy enough repair after Google searches. We are finishing our basement and have painted trim work. The sprayed enamel paint tripped the Flammable Vapor Sensor on our AO Smith water heater. No reset methodology would work (I even pulled the sensor and moved it do a different part of the house overnight). Ordered this replacement part on a Saturday and had it Monday before noon. Part did what it was supposed to, water heater is up and running again. It’s an easy replacement and certainly a do it yourself vs. calling a repair person who will likely charge you $150 just for showing up on a $25 part. The downside of these are - you need the one you need, there aren’t really “options”. If yours dies you need a new one. They’re finicky, as I said mine wouldn’t reset and I read a lot of people having issues with these and their durability / reliability. It’s almost worth having a spare on hand (though if you google right you can find some temporary bypass solutions). $23 is the cheapest I could find this part which is really probably a $3 resistor at best. Crazy price for a cheap part, but it is what it is and this one does the job. Certainly don’t need to pay $50-$70 for other versions of this.
