Q: can I use this outdoors----weather proof?

I have mine hooked to my Generator gas Line outside. Its been outside now for 5 months with no moisture in it. Weather proof? Yes

Q: Will this gauge work for water pressure applications?

This gauge is for measuring pressure on LPG (propane) or natural gas systems. Hence the "inches of water" printed on the face of the gauge. Propane usually runs at 11 to 14 inches of water column on the low side (outlet) of the regulator, But it does matter if you have a high or low pressure system on propane where natural gas usually runs at 9 to 13 inches of water column (low side). these measurements are on the system side of the regulator NOT the tank or supply side. Which puts propane at about1/2 pound pressure at 11 inches of water column, on a low pressure system. If pressure is too high it can damage the device or if device has a pilot light, the pilot won't light or will blow out which gives the system a gas leak, that's why you regulate. You can Google "explain inches of water column" for more info. Also the smell propane gives off is an added safety device, if you notice the smell it's a warning, don't add 🔥 or spark to the area. Because propane is heavier than air, meaning it's at ground level and doesn't float away.

Q: Why wnn't this gauge return to zero after the pressure is released?

If you are certain all pressure is released and the gauge still doesn’t zero, then I suspect it was overpressurized and it’s internals were damaged. The gauge is no longer accurate and should be replaced. If you suspect that pressures higher than the rated max of the gage could occur in the future even momentarily, get a gage with a higher max rating.

Yes you can. I have one each of two unit heaters to monitor the pressure not the flow.
