Love the idea of this tag. My dog ran down the street and my neighbor scanned her chip to see how it worked and it works great.

The Ring pet tag is a cool idea, but the setup is buggy on iPhone. I was initially unable to set it up on the Ring app with my iPhone. It would fail with the following useless message: “Something went wrong. Try again later.” I got some help from Ring support. They let me know that the app does not handle the iPhone's live photos properly. I had to use a static screenshot of the original photo. That allowed the setup to work properly.

UPDATE: Ring reached out and has replaced our previous tag with a new and longer lasting one. I’m excited to put the new one on my dog and very appreciative of Rings’ great customer service! This item is not durable for an outside pet. The WR code rubbed off in an unreasonable amount of time.

This item is perfect! Being as how I already have the ring doorbell, I didn't have to pay for any extra subscription which is a plus and it works really great!

The tag itself is very nice to have! I see a lot of people in my area use these, so when we got our rescue I immediately purchased one. He’s a basset hound and likes to play rough, and I can confidently say after 6 months the QR code is still in tact and very legible and has held up very well. It’s a universal fit tag and I don’t think you have to have a Ring account to scan the code and get in contact with the owner should your pet run loose (you would just need an account to set it up and get alerts).
