Q: When installing, can a use a power tri-tap to power both my tv and soundbar?

yes i did. The only issue with this unit is if your TV has a 90 degree power cord you will need a baby extension cord or some outlet extenders do not fit either

Q: Did this come with the Romex cable? It shows it in the pic but I wanted to make sure as someone else said it didn't?

It came with a cord to run to the wall outlet and another to drop from the top to the bottom box. I did notice that there were several kits, so make sure you order the one with all the goodies you want.

Q: I read somewhere that this may not work with the newer Samsung LEDs that have a flat power cord because of the recessed plug. Is this true?

I just installed one of these with a new Samsung LCD (UN40EH5300) with the 90 deg plug. The particular one I had DID fit within the recessed hole and there does not appear to be too much bend to the cord. Ideally you'd want a different plug or a very short extension, but I have no fear that there will be any issues.

Q: can you buy just the lower piece? or something like? need a 3 prong male end that hooks up to romex

Yes. Home Depot sells the kits,as well as individual pieces. Pricing is same.
