Q: Can you lay on this pad while doing back exercises?

I'm not sure what type of back exercises you are doing but I would think you could. I generally sleep on mine at night and have not had any issues

It creates moist heat well in the microwave. The pad is filled with seeds and other properties than when heated create the moisture. I will say the large pad is quite heavy, but I do like it very much.

Q: can you fold pad to fit in microwave?

Yes...you can fold the pad in half to fit in the microwave....after the first two minutes...unfold , then refold so the other side is up for the last two minutes.
