Don't think there is any issue of weight with the plate, it's more what will your 100 x 100 original bracket take and how securely that is attached to your wall.

Q: Does this come with fixings? If not, what would I need (I'm taking a 200 by 200 mount to a 300 by 300)?

Q: Will the adapter plate accept m6 screws ?

If M6 are the standard 100 x 100 screws then yes. I took my screws from my 100 x 100 original setup and they screwed directly into this plate. Then took bigger screws that went through the 300 x 300 holes to secure the new TV. This bracket is really well made and was so simple to use.
