Product Description This series of first-ever recordings of Martinus early orchestral works has already uncovered much delightful music; this third release moves everything up a gear. The symphonic triptych Vanishing Midnight (1922) will prove a revelation: a big-hearted work of breathtaking opulence and striking confidence. Vanishing Midnight is as exquisitely lovely as it is powerful and dramatic Martinus first true masterpiece, but it is also his last full-on engagement with Impressionism. The two shorter works here Ballade: Villa by the Sea and Dream of the Past are colourful and atmospheric tone-poems, pieces of real substance and major discoveries in their own right. Review Lyrical and measured performances. --BBC Music Magazine, March'18

I hope this series will continue and that Martinu's musical output will become better known and more widely performed
Absolutely superb recording. All credit to Toccata Classics for producing this third album of otherwise forgotten music by Martinu. I hope this series will continue and that Martinu's musical output will become better known and more widely performed. Excellent notes by Michael Crump.

Young genius!
These orchestral gems show Martinu to have a naturally tuneful and original approach even before he departed for France. These are essentially undiscovered masterpieces which yet show little or no resemblance to the later characteristics of surrealism and impressionism. These are works of both intrigue and beauty which all music lovers should enjoy.Highly recommended.
