Fantastic Route 66 guidebook
I simply cannot say enough good things about this guidebook. I just finished a great solo trip down Route 66, 84 days from Chicago to Santa Monica. The amount of useful information it contains is absolutely amazing - detailed turn-by-turn directions that let you follow the original route as closely as possible - detailed hand-drawn maps - tons of suggestions for motels, diners, interesting roadside attractions and side trips. The spiral binding makes it compact and easy to lay flat. Very highly recommended! 😎

Helpful guide for route 66!
My friend and I traveled the entire route 66 this past summer. After researching, we purchased this book to guide us on our trip. At first glance, it is super intimidating! We were confused and overwhelmed, and only brought it with us because we purchased it. However, this guide ended up saving us a few times on the route. It is really easy to get lost in some places on route 66, as some towns provide better signage than others. We used our GPS as much as possible, but this book ended up being a great resource to ensure we were on the right track.

Gotta get this book!
So, I purchased 4 guide books for our Route 66 trip and used two. This books was our main guide for staying on the route. And the Route 66 Travel Guide 202 Places help us pick our stops. This book looks daunting and it may have stayed tucked away in my bag if the gentleman at the 66 to Cali shop on the Santa Monica Pier hadn’t explained it to me before we started… we took the Route East (Cali to Chicago). It really is simple to use. If you’re going west, read the directions at the top of the page starting at the front of the book. Going East, the bottom directions are for you… start at the back and move forward in the book. Everything in the middle are interesting stops, side trips, and less know portions of the Route you may or at not want to drive on. If you want to drive on the actual road as much as possible… you need THIS book. If you just want to hit some iconic stops and travel a similar but not exact path use any of the 66 books out there. We also used a 2024 road atlas, Google Maps (map view and satellite view) and Apple Maps (best labeling of historic Route66).Best of luck on your journey!

Book Condition
Book was in rough shape. As I thought about it though, it dawned on me it was a book well traveled.
