I’d been researching coolers for weeks in preparation for an upcoming camping/fishing trip to the Sierra’s. I finally decided to take a chance on the Igloo BMX 72 QT in Oil Green despite the negative reviews. The size was perfect for my needs, being a single adult 65 year old male. I loaded it up with four 7.5 pound bags of ice, 24 soda cans, 12 bottles of water, various snacks and food stuffs, and fruit in the dry-goods basket that I purchased separately. Needless to say, it was heavy. With no wheels or cart, it was difficult to maneuver around. The size made it a no go to fit in the trunk of my 4-door sedan…so, in the back seat it went. After a 4 hour trip up to the campground I unloaded the cooler, placing it in the shade next to my brother-in-laws 32 ft trailer. I checked the ice and there was very little if any noticeable loss. The color, Oil Green, blended in very well with the forest in our campsite. After our 5 day trip, i still had 1/2 a cooler full of ice. I never had to make a special trip back down the mountains to purchase more ice, unlike my brother and brother-in-law. They were very impressed by the performance of my cooler. I highly recommend this cooler and would purchase again in a heartbeat.

This product from Igloo is a huge disappointment and so overpriced! I know coolers are expensive these days but they have failed in almost every category here. I did two tests to compare this cooler and an inexpensive cooler purchased at Walmart almost 7 years ago. Both tests showed the same results. The cooler was compared to a 48qt Rubbermaid cooler. I put a 7lb bag of ice in each cooler and stored it in my a/c house set at 81 degrees. They were both stored away from windows and next to each other. Both coolers had nothing in them but the unopened bags of ice. It took 24hours for the ice to melt in the smaller cooler and it took 32.5 hours for the ice to melt in the Igloo cooler. This is nowhere near 5 days. 2 things here, I know if I filled the both coolers with more but an even amount of ice that both coolers ice would have lasted longer. The other is Igloo’s advertising and play on words, “up to 5 days of ice retention”. I knew this going in but for the price you pay for this cooler, 32 hours is a huge disappointment and can’t justify keeping it. I can’t imagine what I would be saying if I actually used it outdoors. I live in Florida where the average summertime temp is 93 out. This is why I have to return it. It would not last on a real camping trip for me. This is why this cooler got 2 stars from me. The size is a very good and holds a lot. The handles are rugged with a grip that I like; just note that I will be returning this cooler so I did not get to test the handles in the outdoors. The major flaws: there is no seal which would make this a tighter fit and may hold ice longer, especially with how loose the rubber grip closers are. These types of closers are supposed to make a tight seal but with this cooler it does come close to being tight. If I was igloo with all there complaints I would address this issue quickly! The 3rd flaw is the lid seems hollow with a big indent in the middle. I know this indent is to fit more food but this cooler is big enough and makes it just an average cooler with the looks of a higher quality cooler. I know it doesn’t have the quality or price of the yeti coolers but if they made some easy fixes here it would make this a way better product and I could justify the price they sell it at. So basically the engineering on this should be way better for this price point. It disappoints me that I purchased this cooler and wasted my time and energy but I hope this helps other buyers from wasting their time with this cooler. Happy hunting.

Works awesome, tested the duration it would hold ice and did not upset. Great cooler little smaller than I thought but ended up working perfectly

This cooler retained two small bags of gas station ice for over 55 hours in a warm environment. Probably did not fill it as much as we should have but it retained most of the ice despite some of it melting. All our items are still cold even after the trip home. If you do not fill it up like you should with ice you may need to drain it every day to get rid of the sloshing noise when driving but overall performed very well. 10/10 for expectations vs reality.
