take it from someone who never spends money on himself - this bag is worth it!
I'm a educator/business professional and have always used backpacks for my daily packing needs - journal, portfolio, laptop, chargers, etc. Although I make a decent living, I'm a pretty frugal person, so a backpack like this is not something I ever would have purchased in the past - $50-100 is the most I ever would have spent (only once did I spend more than $50). I decided, however, to step out of my comfort zone and buy a truly professional, well-made, hopefully-long-lasting backpack this time. I researched and viewed many backpacks, but always came back to the Troubadour Apex 3.0. Something about it caught my eye the first time I saw it/read about it and nothing else quite ever matched up to it as I continued to research - so I went out on a limb and bought it. I haven't had it long as of this review, but I can say unequivocally that I am 100% happy with my purchase. I fits every need I have in a work/professional backpack in regards to what I need to carry on a daily basis - plus it looks beautiful and seems to be made extremely well. I have looked at Troubadour's lineup of bags and wish I could afford to buy a bunch more - but I'm a cheapo, so idk, haha. Praying to continue loving this for years to come!

Absolutely excellent and you probably don't need a bigger backpack
(This may be a double post due to an issue with Amazon's reviews)I was pleasantly surprised when I got this backpack that it is so much roomier than you'd think for the size. I used to use a Tylt backpack (I got it waaaaay back during their original Kickstarter) and haven't found anything that measured up in terms of features, room and comfort. So color me surprised when I fell in love with this one!I've found I'm able to comfortably fit and carry:- My Apple AirPods Max- iPad Mini- iPad Pro 13" (with the Magic Keyboard)- Laptop- Charger and cablesI got both this one for domestic travel and the larger one for international. The straps are super comfortable and I find myself just wearing the backpack instead of immediately putting it over my carry-on handles. I'm frankly shocked at how easy it has been to use and how I can immediately access what I need without losing anything in the cold, dark, unexplored depths of a backpack. This is absolutely worth the money and I'm glad I got it!

Excellent backpack
Amazing backpack, not too big for women, looks put together but fits a whole lot of things. It's molded and stays in shape, so no matter if you fill it up to the brim or if you are carrying just your regular items, it won't look askew.

Professional Backpack
This is my new daily work bag. I wanted something that was comfortable for my back but looked more professional. I've been using it for a few months now. I've gotten a lot of compliments on it! Its the perfect size for what I need, and easy on my back. I've been caught in the rain a few times too and so far everything inside has stayed dry.The little zipper pocket on the outside is perfect for my work badge, and I usually slip my cell phone in one of the side pockets. I'm considering buying another for my luggage set!

Expensive, modern, sleek, but heavy and black hole interior
Similar to other reviews, I was drawn to this backpack because of its sleek, modern, and minimalist aesthetic. However, although I ordered the navy, what arrived was the Black (no biggie, as black is versatile as well). It fits a 16-17inch laptop and iPad + accessories; however, the empty bag itself is already heavy enough due to the materials, zippers, etc. The deep black interior and pockets make it difficult to locate items within quickly and efficiently, and does not have adequate room for a jacket, sweater, or other layered clothing you’d like to store if it gets to hot or cool with changing temperatures. The cell phone pocket is also not useful for standard smart phones of the era. For the steep price, other brands and companies offer more for the price and specifications.

Loved it - but went with Pioneer 3.0 instead
I got both the Apex 3.0 and the Pioneer 3.0 to compare in person. I ended up going with the Pioneer, which I've give 4.5 stars, compared with the 4.0 starts for the Apex. What I was looking for: I wanted to consolidate two bags; my work briefcase and my gym bag. The Apex could not accomplish that, the Pioneer could. However, I wish there was a way to merge features from both into one bag.The Apex:Likes:- Lots of Colourways (Obsidian Green is beautiful, refined, sophisticated, but still unique and fun)- High quality details and materials: Zipper pulls; ruberized waterproof zippers, leather accents, stitching, etc. all top quality. The most refined backpack at this pricepoint available- Dedicated laptop/tech compartment. I cannot stress enough how nice of a feature this is. Laptop/tablets have their own well-padded compartment.- Straps are comfortable, addjustable (with a high-quality fabric pullstrap)- Horizontal front pocket. (better, when compared to the vertical slash pocket on the P3.0)Dislikes:- No dedicated shoe compartment (such the Pioneer 3.0)- Size: even though it is technically larger in capactiy than the P3.0, I found it to be more difficult to fit the same amount of stuff in. I think the separate shoe pocket in the Pioneer made it easier to access and organize stuff- When the bag is full, the water bottle pockets at the side are a little insecure; I found my waterbottle didn't fit in snugly and was hard to slip in and out.Utlimately, as I said, this one is going back and I'm sticking with the P3.0 because it was easier to dig stuff out and fit more stuff in: Gym shoes, shorts, shirt, toilety bag, gym towel, plus all my work stuff - 17" laptop, folders, stationery organizers, notebook, etc.

Great backpack, especially for going out with kids
I liked the pioneer backpack so much I bought this one for my wife. It’s smaller than then pioneer and we use it for outings with the kids. All the compartments and two water bottle holders make it great for packing snacks, a change of clothes for them, wet wipes, and everything else we need for when out all day or on a hike. And it’s incredibly sturdy—these backpacks are built incredibly well.
