This press replaced my old book press and is 200% better than the one I have used for over 20 years. Each day I use it my thought is it is very well designed, and easy to use. I rate it an A+

This is a solid, heavy machine! I am really excited to try it and have flowers pressing now. It arrived well packaged in foam in a sturdy box…No assembly required! There were minor scratches where the plate meets the base (likely caused by rubbing in shipping) one one small chip in the gray finish on an outer edge of the base plate. These won’t affect performance so who cares. Overall it looks perfect and is a solid piece …did I mention it is Heavy! I feel like it will easily press flowers, handmade paper etc. ItPerfectly fits a standard size sheet of computer paper so will be great for my smaller watercolor paintings. I also hope to try this for Lino printing!

A similar functioning forged iron nipping press costs an extra two zeros. Literally, got this on sale for $60 made of nice, heavy steel, brand new. An iron traditional model with the same pressing dimensions goes for $2000 new or $600 rusted out used. btw the iron nippers with the round crank only open 3” To get the same height opening as this model requires the iron nipper with the t- handle.

OK, the product does what it says and that's not the problem. The problem is in the quality control. When the press arrived today I immediately took it out of the box. The only way to pull it out of the box is to grab it by the handle on the top of the press screw. Well, no sooner than I grabbed the handle did I have a sharp pian in my hand where my index finger and web of my hand meet. It seems that the machining is done AFTER the chroming process has been done, resulting in a long spiral shard of metal still being attached to the screw shaft breaking off and lodging itself deeply into my hand...obviously a result of the piece NOT being deburred before assembly. This metal shard, roughly 1/2" in length, not only pierced my skin, but broke into 2 pieces, one firmly imbedded into my hand, requiring me to have to use my medical kit to remove. After about 20 minutes under a magnifying lens, I managed to get the piece completely out, stop the bleeding and then close the wound with medical glue. I am not going to attach a photo of my injury, however I will show the spot from which this piece of metal came, as well as the chrome that is still flaking off of the screw.I'm no wuss. In my line of work, injuries are just part of a daily routine. Cuts, scrapes, splinters...they are all routine, so I don't get bothered by much, bit I do NOT expect to be sliced open or impaled by simple machining deficiencies on brand new tools. This is unacceptable. While I am not going to make a big deal out of this, or return the product, the manufacturer NEEDS to do better to insure the welfare of the consumer, and the consumer needs to be aware that this company has machining deficiencies that can cause serious injuries to unsuspecting users. Now, had this injured my WIFE (the person for whom this item was purchased) and not me, there would be some serious hell to pay.

the unit comes fully assembled and squeaky clean, ready to press. exactly as described. the photos were taken only a few minutes after opening the box. very happy with the product, and shipping was really fast

Lost a star because 3 of the 4 screws holding the top plate to the screw mechanism were missing or were loose and fell out of the box and one rivet was not hammered down. I bought replacement screws at Home Depot and hammered the rivet into place. It may seem like a lot to do but it took minutes and the press was less than $90 and works so I'm happy. It's sturdy and works for my amateur bookbinding needs.

This thing is heavy, and made of solid steel. Works absolutely great besides the first hiccup I had. Out of the box, I put some grease on the slides, screwed down the plate to get it to spread and it jammed. I had to take it an apart to get it working again.

Soft steelI didn’t expect a lot for the price, but it wouldn’t be too much to expect the threaded shaft to be made of hardened steel.You can feel it grading and grinding away as you apply pressure. The first time I used it I was concerned so I tried greasing it, but it still feels like it’s grinding the metal out of the threads.
