Capiz shells are of the outer shell of the mollusc (Placuna placenta), a marine mollusc. Capiz shells are named after their original habitat, the coastal waters near the town of Capiz in the Philippines. When thoroughly cleaned, the shell walls are translucent and offer - also through painting or dyeing - a unique interplay of light and colour.
