Q: How tight does this fit into a dslr? does it have wiggle or is it sturdy? also, how long is the tip with the two knobs ran all the way down?

These fit pretty tight. Worth the price.

Q: Before I give poor review, are all shoe inserts much smaller than the mount? I can wiggle it 20 degrees either side!! Should it be snug with no play?

Little wiggle is fine and it depends on what you are mounting it (steel ,plastic ...) but if it is a lot maybe the shoe mount is not standart .

Q: Is that a 1/4-20 threaded tap, and does it go all the way through, please? The photos do not show it.

Yes, it's 1/4-20 and it goes all the way through. (It wouldn't be very useful if it were only tapped from the top. Being able to screw it onto a bolt from the bottom of the cold shoe is critical.) Happy shooting!
