Easy to assemble motor-based kits with good instructions.
Really run assembly kits, I put them together with my 3 year old. They actually last a long time - we built all of these about 5 months ago and all but 1 are going strong. Good instructions with pictures, well priced and fun to see how different things work.

Fun gift for kids
Bought this for a birthday gift. They absolutely loved it! They had so much fun making these little robots instead of sitting in front of the tv! Definitely worth the money!

Fun project for kids (with some help from adults)
I bought the "STEM Kits for Kids Crafts 6-8 8-12" to build with my granddaughters. Overall the sets were well and the parts were somewhat pre-sorted to help identify which were to be used for different steps. The instructions are fine for an adult/instructor but I think they would be very hard to follow for the targeted age group. My only real complaint is that the screws used are VERY small and difficult to install. You are only putting the screws into plastic, but the screw heads are small and the provided screwdriver requires a significant amount of pressure to get the screws started and not strip out the screw heads. Even with a good screwdriver, the screws are difficult to install. If I were building the kit alone, it would have taken about 15-20 minutes the first time through. With my 6 year old granddaughter's help, it took about an hour. We both found the build to be fun and the kit was an excellent complexity level to keep her interested without becoming overly frustrated.

Fabulous fun and can be used to teach some general science concepts.
These were fabulous fun and also could be used to teach some general science concepts. Toys are cheap and not meant for a lifetime, but the assembly and play were great. Screws and wiring are TINY - will require an adult. AA Batteries required.

Great hands on stem building toys.
I don’t know who liked these more, the nephews I gave them to or the dads who helped them with the projects.

Cute but disappointing
We put together two of the little packets with my 7 year old nephew, and of those two, only one of them worked. The orange plastic in the 1st one was warped and the screw holes didn't line up. See included video. That bot sort of inch-wormed its way forward for a bit and then started smelling like burning plastic. It didnt avoid or turn away from objects like promised either. The propeller on the 2nd bot turned, but it didn't push the bot forward as it was supposed to. But, as you can see, after I loosened the wheels, it did move as it was supposed to. So, hint: keep the wheels nice and loose. Nephew was so excited when it actually worked. The excitement lasted for 2 minutes, because the bot drove off the table and the propeller shattered. It didn't work after that. Thought this stem kit would be great in my nephew's Easter basket. He loved it, as he loves all things stem, but in the end we were all ultimately disappointed. Pros: the kid loved that the bots were "cute." He's 7, and he anthropomorphizes everything. Googly eyes go a long way with little kids. Cons: it was too hard for this 7 year old to do on his own. Truth be told, it was hard for me. Not difficult to comprehend or disypher the instructions but tricky, because all the parts and screws are so small. Even his tiny hands had a hard time with it. Also, when you take the ends off the wires, they are frayed, which makes it hard to thread them through a hole and then wrap them around. It was nice to do an activity together for Easter instead of just eating candy. But next time, I'll go with a different stem kit.
