Q: can it be used with sea water ?

no it is for fresh water only it won't remove the salts

Q: Can this only be used as a straw or can you squeeze water through it and into a bottle for drinking later?

You red to suck the water up thru the straw. It might work upside down to dribble water thru if you could mate the straw to a suitable container. Might nit be the best solution though. There is a bottle variant somewhere whick would be better.

Depends on the particle size of the heavy metals, the filters stop anything bigger than 0.2 microns (200 nanometers). As atoms can range from 0.12 - 0.5 nanometers. Dependant on what was mindes there, dangerous heavy metals will be present such as mercury, Thallium, Lead, Polonium, Osmium. I would not risk it. If you do require to purify suck contaminated water, I would suggest taking filter paper, celite and carbon filters or a distillery. You can also buy heavy metal detection kits here on amazon to see what heavy metals you need to deal with if any.
