Q: How much weight will it hold

I have given these to ladies I lunch with often, their purses range from small to Medium large(none are big enough to be an overnight bag) the bigger ones are more prone to getting knocked off the table, but that is probably due more to their size rather than their weight. They get in your way! so far none of them has broken.

they are metal.....and the part that wraps around the circle sticks magnetically. i love them and use them often.

Q: Does the table/surface have to be metal for them to work? Or does the weight hold them in place? Just wondering if they'd work on wooden tables.

They work on any type of material as long as the table is not too thick. I love mine I use it everywhere even found a way to hook it on a door in the bathroom lol
