Opinel No 5 Carbon steel
The listing for this item appears to be wrong. I received the normal sized Opinel No 5 Carbon Steel knife with a 6cm blade despite the listing stating it as "3.5cm version". Personally this is what I wanted and I am happy with the knife. It came with a good factory finish and is capable of easily carving through basswood with minimal effort. It also has a good amount of edge retention, standing up to several hours of carving with minimal honing every hour or so. There is a Opinel knife with a 3.5cm blade, the Number 2. I believe that knife is being referred to in the listing dimensions and older reviews. Perhaps the seller needs to review these details and update them accordingly. I would highly recommend this knife for hand carving. It is well made and nice to use with its very thin profile allowing for little resistance. It being a carbon blade you can already observe hints of patina on the blade where my hand oils have made contact and not been whiped away. This is to be expected with carbon steel and should be an indicator that it is not suitable for use in damp environments or for cooking and requires additional maintenance to that required by its stainless steel counterpart. If you do intend to buy a Opinel knife for fishing or cooking I would recommend looking for the classic stainless steel version.

Great UK Legal Knife!
Great for foraging, slicing onions and fruit! The blade will stain a little but it's not the end of the world. Perfect for the UK. This probably won't be ideal for anything heavy-duty, although it's super sharp and can be carried in public in the UK so for that reason.. I would highly recommend this knife!

Razor sharp
Great little pocket knife, that is legal to actually keep in your pocket. Comes razor sharp, and stays that way with an occasional strop. The only criticism would be that it's prone to rust, so keeping it oiled is a must.

Fantastic value.
I've now got 4 of these of varying sizes. They live round the house and in various bags. The blade is good, the handle comfortable. This one is tiny, so a little impractical for some tasks, but as an every day knife that is unlikely to get you in trouble unless you are doing something really stupid. Because it is non locking it is UK legal. It really is a great knife

Cheap and flimsy.
I used this once and it started to discolour. It was a lot smaller than I anticipated but that didn’t bother me, however the discretion on the blade after one use did.

Nice knife but this is NOT an Opinel No5
As with all the Opinel folding knives the quality is great. However, the seller needs to change the product description as this knife is not a No5 which has A 6.5cm blade. It is, I believe, a No2. Product therefore not as described. I will however keep the item delivered as it will still be useful for my whittling but I now need to purchase the correct one. Also, the price quoted for this knife is the same as another item also advertised as a No5 from the same supplier so I suspect that it should also have been cheaper

another great opinel!
Top quality as always from Opinel, once you have owned one you will never want to be parted from it. (warning, they can be addictive, a friend of mine has nine).Go for the carbone models they are easy to sharpen and hold a fine edge, also with time they take on an appealing antique look. If you don't have an Opinel yet now is the time, you will not regret it. P.S I don't work for Opinel.

Tiny is the form, midget is the factor. Where it fits, imagine a non disposable x-acto style blade with a cool little wooden handle. Sooo forgo the convivence of a throw away blade and anticipate having to put an edge on the blade yourself. I'm no expert on free hand sharpening however the Opinel thin blades make it very easy to return it to at least paper carving sharp (Both Carbon & Stainless blade versions). Opinel is attractive to those who appreciate the peasant utility of non disposable product with zero frills and a high degree of nostalgia. This size (No. 2) is very limited in practical application so I would highly recommend going with the locking blades No 6 and larger (No 8 is the deFacto standard size, I like No 9 for the handle grip length). If the aforementioned use as a mini razor is your need then this is a your tool.

I got a #2. Reasonably priced but too small to be practical.
