TPT - Titanium Pocket Tool

Just received this item and put all the tools on it through some usage, and I have to say I'm impressed. It's a well-made and solid little unit.Mini-prybar, scraper edge, 1/4 inch hex driver, bottle opener, sliding blade and the hex wrenches all work well. Are you gonna want to tear down and reassemble a car engine with this thing? No, of course not, but for some minor tightening or loosening of SAE and metric nuts and bolts from 15/64 inch (6mm) up to 7/16 inch (12mm), the wrench feature works.The internal magnet keeps the blade from rattling in your pocket and also can hold the tool against any steel surface to keep it handy for use.It comes with two sliding inserts which are shaped like standard utility knife blades, but with no sharpened edge. According to the manufacturer (see FAQs/diagrams/other info on their site) not having the sharpened edge makes it TSA/air travel safe.The included insert (one 'natural', one black anodized) can be used to open boxes/cartons, as a scraper, and has lengthwise cutouts so one end can be used as an emergency/camping fork to eat with. It will also accept standard sharpened utility knife blades which are available anywhere.It comes with a sturdy, black leather sheath, which has an extra outer pocket to store the second insert and another blade if desired, and arrives with the small black paracord lanyard already installed.Pricey? Yes. But it's made of titanium which is always costly, and is stronger than most steels at about half the weight. It's light as a feather, well-machined, well thought out, and will serve well for a lifetime on a key ring or in a pocket.Edit: I buy a lot of stuff on Amazon and read a lot of reviews, and I don't always trust items with only one, 5-star review. Since this is the first review for this product, I just want to say that I'm not affiliated with the manufacturer or the seller in any way. I'm just a guy who is kind of into survival/prepping, and I love gadgets, tools and cool ideas made real.I ordered this thing 6 days ago while I was sitting on a damp but sturdy log in the western Wisconsin woods, deer hunting with my crossbow. I had seen it before, it was in the back of my mind, and it intrigued me. I liked the manufacturer based on their website and, in particular, one (very long) review on their site, so I ordered it.Is $64 a lot to spend on this thing? Yeah, probably, it is (it's $69 on the manufacturer's site). But if I don't lose it, which I won't, cuz I'm anal that way and a little OCD, so I never lose stuff, I'll have it for the rest of my life, and that, coupled with how well-made and functional it is, makes it worth every penny. This is a well made item. It is clearly not cheap. However, there are a handful of these single utility blade holders out there, and in my opinion, this is the best of them. Personally, this shines as a secondary knife that I carry for a specific purpose. If I am helping someone move, get a call to fix something or packing a shipment at work I throw this in my pocket as a backup to my "real" pocket knife. Not because the real pocket knife can't handle it, but because if I expect to be cutting things that are hard on a blade, this saves the edge on my real knife.As far as filling the secondary role I bought it for, it is fantastic. It is, literally, just larger than a utility blade itself and you can legitimately pry things with the prying tool. The universal wrench feature is functional, but obviously exercise care. Use the other end of the tool to scrape the gunk off the fastener before you try to gain purchase on it and you'll have a better experience. Without the lanyard it is truly small enough that I can throw it in my pocket and not notice it is there, even if I've got dress pants on for work.The only downside to this is that it requires two hands to open or close. To me, this is an acceptable compromise. Just remember - if you're used to reaching for a "real" utility knife or pocket knife, you're likely used to opening and closing it one-handed. That is not possible with the Titanium Pocket Tool - press the button down with one thumb, pinch the blade between pointer and thumb of the other hand to pull it out, release the button with the first thumb, do in reverse before putting it back in your pocket. If there is a second generation, I'd really like to see some creative design work that allows single-handed operation. This is not worth knocking it down to four stars, but its worth keeping in mind. Pro tip: wipe the oil off that the utility blade is probably stored in before you put it in the pocket tool. This will make it much easier to operate.As far as the material, despite the cost, I think it is the right choice. Aluminum would be far too soft for the prying tool or the wrench and plain steel would require a coating that would wear off and allow corrosion. A traditional stainless steel could be a functional choice, but would increase the tool's weight by about 70%. Also, the finish on the tool provides reasonably good grip (even considering its size) without being difficult to remove from your pocket or the included leather sleeve. The internal magnet that both prevents the blade from rattling and allows you to stick it to ferrous surfaces is a nice touch.All in all, an exceptionally well designed tool for a niche role. Carrying and using it will highlight the fact that each aspect of this tool was considered and tradeoffs were evaluated to arrive at the final design. I am satisfied with the purchase because it is a logical design as well as an truly functional item.

I've had this for about two weeks now and have used it almost every day. I threw out the two blades that came with it. I'm never going to use them as a camp fork. I also doubt that they will ever get thru TSA security because they are pointy. But I've loaded in a standard utility razor and taken off the paracord lanyard (useless bulk). This goes with me everywhere. I've used the 1/4 inch driver, screwdriver, and prybar for their intended purposes and I've opened many packages and cut cord, tape, and plastic cable with the blade. I have not yet used the wrench.I think it's a great idea to simply take the blade out when flying or if I go to an event where blades are not allowed and then replace the blade later. I've had to hide my knife in the shrubbery times when I've gone to a concert or game where they were scanning. I have not yet had this looked over by security but believe it will pass. And I like that when I travel I can go to the nearest hardware store or retrieve utility blades from my checked luggage and I have all the utility I normally have at home.The best tool you have is the one that you have with you now. Since I received this, I have had this tool with me.It's durable. It's well designed. Getting the blade in and out took about 60 seconds to master and now can be done with two hands in about 3 seconds.I don't always carry my pocket knife now. This has become the tool I carry everyday.Addendum 10-02-2020. I’ve carried it daily and used it hundreds of times. It never failed to help with packages in the garden, or other simple cutting tasks. I bought some highly rated blades and still am on the first of these. My fear was it would slip from my pocket but that hasn’t happened.
