Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide: All-in-one Guide for Professional Scrum Master (PSM 1) Certificate Assessment Preparation
M**.
Highly recommended to learn Scrum with this book and pass the PSM1 exam
The Scrum organization recommends Scrum courses that follow the guidelines of Scrum as stated in the Scrum guide. But these courses are not obligatory. I recommend such a course, in particular when your employer offers to pay for it. When you want to teach yourself, the book Scrum Narrative and PSM Guide covers all information for passing the PSM1 course. I used this book as main guidance and passed the exam (I answered 97.5% of the 80 questions correctly). The information in this book is provided in a format that makes it easy to understand, with theory clearly and concisely explained and alternated with multiple choice questions to test your understanding of the topic, and at the end a full set of 80 questions for further practice. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to read this book and learn Scrum. Without a course it is not always obvious which knowledge is required for the test, and thus what book to spend your time and money on. The Scrum guide is the standard for the Scum framework, and I did read it several times. From my own experience I can tell you that this book is fully compliant with the Scrum Guide and teaches you much more for successfully passing the exam. Note that Scrum is a framework for agile management, therefore it can be widely applied in product development including products not related to software, and you will need no programming knowledge to pass the PSM1 exam. The questions of the PSM1 test do not only test your knowledge of facts. Situations are described so that you must have a full understanding of how the framework is applied to pass the exam. To train for these questions I highly recommend this book, as the Scrum guide alone doesn't provide enough context and correlations. Finally, I noticed that there are several books and videos available in which the Scrum framework has been adapted by the authors. Learning from these will set you up for failure when executing Scrum as well as failure for passing the exam, because Scrum is immutable.

Helped me pass PSM1
Really great book that helped me pass the PSM 1 exam. I didn't attend a course just revised this book and scrum guide. The book actually provides very good context to information in the scrum guide which really helped my understanding. As others have said, the grammatical errors really detracted from the brilliance of this book. Basic proof reading by someone with good knowledge of the English language would have helped a lot.Despite the grammer issues, this book is the only one of its kind on the market for PSM 1 and is a must if you are doing a self study for the PSM exam. Highly recommended.

Excellent help for preparing for exam
I wanted to add a review as found the other reviews very helpful when I was looking for a book. I wanted to take the PSM1 exam and wasn't sure I could prepare for it myself without an expensive training course. It is possible! I bought this book and read it carefully, practised all the test questions at the back a couple of times and also did the scrum open tests on scrum.org and I passed my test the first time I sat it. This book is very helpful at explaining the Scum Guide in more detail.

Great book both to learn about Scrum and to pass the exam
A number of older reviews comment on the grammar. I think it's been updated because I had no concerns with the language or grammar, and found it an easy read with regular questions to embed learning.I read the book and followed the recommendations in terms of practicing with the scrum.org tests, and taking the book's tests, and this was more than sufficient for me to understand the principles of Scrum and to pass the exam with an excellent score.

Best of a bad bunch
- The best overall content of any book about Scrum- Clear "detour" coverage of important non-Scrum things which Scrum Masters need to understand- Too many grammatical errors- Answers for all questions (both within the text and the quizzes) are on the line immediately following the last choice so it's almost impossible to read a question without seeing the answer- Some silly mistakes, e.g. Quiz 2, Question 1 has choices (a), (a), (b)- Kindle edition won't work on the OS X Kindle app (just get error message); all my other Kindle books work fine on OS X- The formatting isn't great, but I've only read the Kindle edition online; other reviews elsewhere suggest the electronic editions offered outside of Amazon might be better formatted- Some esoteric wordage choices which could have been a lot clearer- With some proper proof reading, appropriate adjustments and formatting improvements a 2nd release of this book could be the perfect resource for Scrum- Whilst I've just listed a lot of negatives, it's still a better book than the alternatives currently available, most of the other include factual incorrectness, whereas this book respects the official Scrum Guide and the immutable nature of Scrum- It's a shame the author and his team didn't apply a solid “Definition of Done” when developing this book :)

Helped me pass PSM1
Although Mohammed is at pains to tell you on the scrum.org site that you are not obliged to buy his book to pass PSM1, I did buy it & found his book *very* helpful - the descriptions, the Why, the small tests all the way through & then the full 80 question full practice assessment - which exposed some gaps in my learning. After reading his book, doing all the tests, checking the answers & my understanding of them in 1+ days & then doing some supplementary reading on scrum.org learning portal, I felt confident enough to do the assessment & pass. Highly recommended.

Useful book, but has some quality issues.
The book is laid out nicely so that each subject is tested with mini-quizzes before some broader questions at the end. I found it really useful, but there are some typos and missing questions, especially later on in the book, so I can't give it a higher rating. A good editor would help get this into top shape!

Passed my Exam!
Used this book to pass my PSM 1 exam. It is very helpful that it has exam style questions throughout the book as you cover various topics. I listened to a couple of videos and took the exam and did not pass. After I read this book, I passed with a high score.
