Simple to use but photo paper is very expensive
I got the Canon Zoemini 2 delivered just an hour ago, so these are only my immediate impressions. The printer itself is very pretty in the rose quartz colour. Extremely tactile, smooth, sleek and fits perfectly in the palm of your hand. If I went purely on looks, the design would get 10/10 for sure. It charges through a USB connection, which was included in the package. Charge time was very quick, 15-20 mins (maybe it was pre-charged, I'm not sure). There's a card in the package with a QR code, which takes you to a link to download the app. The app is pretty straightforward to use. You can create collages, which was important to me as I only need small stickers for my journals. This way you can maximise the cost/photo ratio as well. The app allowed me to create borders and add text (along with some some other customisations that I wasn't interested in). The print looks OK for what it is - the colours are slightly washed out compared to the original, but I'm fine with it. It looks and feels like a real photo. As you can see in my image, the border at the bottom was cut off (this is probably a glitch in the app) - not a problem for me as I'll cut around it, but perhaps it will be better to print without borders next time.Overall I'm very happy with this purchase - the printer itself is affordable as a one off investment and I like the fact that it doesn't need any ink. Keep in mind though that the zero ink photo paper is very expensive, so I will only use it occasionally. If you have a proper inkjet printer, you're better off buying some sticky back photo paper and print stickers that way, which I'm also doing. This option, however, is a lot more convenient and instant - you can do it straight from your smart phone without having to upload and resize your photos, etc. I'm just hoping that some cheaper third party paper options will appear on the market soon. I know it's possible to use other brands of ZINK paper of the same size - just make sure to keep the blue barcode that came with your starter pack of 10 photo papers initially. This is used to calibrate the machine each time you insert a new paper pack. I've seen videos where people switched between paper brands and the photo printer still worked, so fingers crossed. At the moment each 2X3" print costs about 50p, which, I'm sure we can all agree, is a bit excessive.
