I bought this so I could check the internal temperature when cooking a lot of mixed food items on the bbq. I normally use a Meater probe which is brilliant for large single pieces of meat that require a longer cook. This is great for when you have lots of different items on the bbq. The advantage of the Javelin is that you can quickly jump between burgers, steaks, sausages, and anything else you happen to be cooking. The response time is fairly quick and the build quality seems good. The temperature reading can be toggled between Fahrenheit and Celsius by changing the tiny switch in the battery compartment. I've used cheaper meat thermometers but I think this hits the sweet spot with a good combination of quality and value.

This is the second one of these thermometers I’ve purchased. First one is still going strong on original battery. As a left hander I do have to read it upside down, but it’s easy to read either way. Being of US origin it’s set to F’ and changing to C’ requires the battery to be removed. This is my only criticism. Once the compartment is opened the battery is buried deep inside the unit it does not drop out, fall out, or even pull out with the aid of a piece of tape. In the end I had to tap the body of the thermometer on the edge of a wooden table several times to get the battery to drop out of the compartment. I’d forgotten this issue when I purchased first one. Makers really need to offer instructions on how to take battery out without use ‘violence’.

quick and accurate, 2 months old and accurate still , the hinge mechanism is still ok and solid, this is fine for domestic use , feels cheap but proving me wrong so far , VFM item and loads better than some of those around the £10 mark . I would buy again

I’m so glad I bought this meat thermometer. And not just because it has a cool name… JAVELIN! It really gives me peace of mind when cooking meat, particularly chicken and turkey which I’m always concerned about cooking thoroughly. As well as using it for checking the progress of roast meats in the oven, I have also found it excellent for cooking steaks to perfection on a George Foreman grill. Similarly, it’s great for checking individual items on the barbeque or in the air fryer. The fact that you can not only check that meat is properly cooked through but that it is also done to your preference, is great. You can avoid drying out your roast dinner out by judicious use of the Javelin. If I’m in doubt I just check the “cooked” temperatures of various items on the internet but I also keep them listed in a notebook for quick reference. Obviously this isn’t as sophisticated as a meat probe such as Meater which comes with its own app (that does work very well with joints of meat) but it is quite sufficient for stabbing into various smaller items and getting a pretty quick internal temperature reading. The confidence that this device has given me (as I generally like to avoid poisoning people!) is brilliant. The thermometer is activated by folding out the probe and you can turn it off by folding it back in. It has an easy-to-read display, is easily wiped clean after use, can measure temperature in Celsius or Fahrenheit, comes in a variety of colours, can attach magnetically to the fridge and has a really long battery life. The price is really good considering how much of a game-changer this has been for me in the kitchen.

Easy to use does the job well

This bad boy has assisted me with cooking, smoking and all kinds of other meal prep tasks! It's handy to have and has a magnet inside so it can be stuck on the fridge between uses! The probe is easy to clean and it turns itself on/off when rotating the probe which is helpful as I am terrible at remembering to turn things like this off manually (usually resulting in me scrambling to find my stash of button batteries) so the fact that it turns itself on/off during the setup for operation is brilliant! Highly Recommended!

The temp read comes up quickly. It turns on/off automatically when you pull the probe out/in or leave it laying around a while. Its magnetic so can stick to fridge etc. The probe is nice and thin so can poke in quite easily. Build quality feels good, has a little bit of weight. Solid temp probe.
