Q: How long does a 10 oz stay fresh & good for once opend ?

I would think a while. My bunny eats them within 2 weeks or so. The lid is tight, so stays fresh. Besides, it is hay.

Q: Can this take the place of loose hay?

These timothy hay cubes are made from the hay powder of the whole timothy grass, so these hay cubes contain more nutrition than your pet gets every day. In most cases, your pet only eats part of the hay, not all of it. However, in terms of fiber, the hay cube contains less fiber than the hay. When we smash the hay into powder, the coarse fiber contained in the hay will become powder.

Hay is the only ingredient listed, but I suspect something sweet has been added to it, as my bunnies go bananas for the hay cubes, and one of my bunnies started gaining weight 🙁 I suspect it could be molasses, but I don't know. We only cut once a year. it is around the end July every year, to assure the hay with most nutrition.
