Q: Does it sqeak at all?

No, make sure you tighten everything after assembly

Q: what keeps te mattress from sliding or shifting off the frame?

Just the weight of the mattress it's self. I've had no issues. No box springs needed, mattress is directly on the metal frame. My husband did make me a wooden head board.

Q: Has anyone tried this with a sleep number bed? I know the recommendation is no more than 2 inches between slats but this is only about 4
