Sorry for confuse, the correct thickness is 3/8in.

Q: Does it come with sandpaper as in the photo?

Just the glass plate and anti slip mat.

Q: how is 5/16 going to stay flat when some pressure is applied ?

The glass plate thickness is 3/8in, it's heavy and super flat when stay on the counter top, trust it, you'll happy with it :)

Q: How the glass plate is protected during shipping for other people? I just got shards wrapped in thin flexible plastic shipped in paper envelope.

Mine came in a bubble wrapped box in a amazon envelope
