Q: Is it suitable for a covered outdoor kennel?

I have fitted several of these to outdoor kennels by using weatherproof sockets. They are ok provided the kennel is watertight. As advised by supplier, they do not resist chewing by even very small dogs. I overcame this problem by using commercial plastic conduit which I slit and fitted over the cable as supplied. I have found this type of heat pad to be unreliable and have had several failures, bearing in mind I have very small dogs (miniature pinschers).I have found a much cheaper alternative which I find more reliable.

Q: can you use this under other bedding?

the instructions say not to put additional bedding on top (i assume because the heat can't penetrate effectively?) but i have used other covers when original cover is in the wash. the warmth coming through is better without additional layers. a thin layer on top would still allow warmth through but too thick a layer would prevent heat from permeating. my cat is very thin and fragile and she loves the bed.

Q: Does anyone know how much this heat pad costs to run per hour?

HiThat depends largely on the cost of your electricity, this pad uses approximately 40 watts which is the same as low wattage light bulb, if you compared it against something like and iron or kettle they use on average around 2000 watts. On a typical electrical supply something like this would cost pence to run for a whole day.The above figures are based on 250W heat lamp compared to 22 x33 Petnap and electricity costs being 8p per unit

Q: My dog loves to chew, he is crated overweight is it possible to place the heat mat under the plastic tray of the crate?

Yes it is possible the pad works well and will still produce some warmth ❗
