Q: What is the best way to go about training the dog to use these?

Attach the bells to whatever door you normally let the dog out for potty purposes. After feeding, or whenever your regular routine is (after you come home?) go over to the door, have the dog sit, ring the bells (and perhaps give a treat if necessary) and let the dog out. After you do this several times, your dog will get the message. Only problem with this technique is that he/she may also think ringing the bell results in getting a treat! LOL So stock up on low calorie small treats! It works!

Q: Can this reach close to the floor for a toy sized dog? Unsure by the other answers. Thanks!

Yes! The length of the entire strip is approx 24", with one bell at the bottom, and one bell about 10" above that. If you hang them from the doorknob, the bottom bell will be about 10-12" off the floor, but you can hang them from a hook next to the door at any height you'd like. Depending on size, your dog may only be able to reach the bottom bell.I researched many versions of this product before buying this one. I think I remember seeing smaller/shorter sets, with smaller bells placed closer together, for little dogs.

They are bells that your dog uses to as left you...when he needs to go out 

Q: Would this work on a sliding glass door handle? (does the loop unsnap and snap?)

It does not snap but what you can do is pull the long piece through the loop hole as if you are almost tying it. It definitely could work.
