With an titanium anodized aluminium body and a stainless steel head that protects the recessed LEDs it's certainly tough enough to withstand rough handling. The on/off switch is interesting - screw it in tight and the unit is switched on. Screw it part-way down and the rubberised button on the end cap acts as a flashlight switch (on while depressed, off when released). Unscrew it a bit more and it's \"safe\" and can't be switched on - which helps save battery life. The front of the unit has a UV hazard warning sticker, and it's essential to heed it's advice as the UV light generated by the 5 LEDs could do serious damage if looked at directly.The fixed LED mounting and lack of a lens means that there's no changing the beam shape and in use it casts a wide, even beam with a useful range of about 10m.
