I'd be lost without it.
I could gush about this timer all day. It's very easy to operate. It has a magnet on the back so you can stick it on the fridge and yet also has a stand which you can bend to any angle making it easy to view from wherever you have placed it.The display is BIG and clear. The counter can be set to count up or down. I find the alarm is loud enough to hear in another room and yet not so loud as to annoy. It has a simple button layout. One large start/stop button. And two smaller buttons. One for putting in minutes and one for seconds. All the buttons are very responsive. Holding down either button will make it count up very fast, which is useful.I own two of these timers. Really would be lost without them. It's a quality product.Others have mentioned that the display stays on the whole time. This really isn't a problem though. One of timers I've had for over a year now and still not had to replace the battery.

Good for the price
Mine arrived today and I've given it a try.I don't want to use this as a timer for any other reason than I want it as a kitchen timer, so -Pros....It's very quick & easy to set, no complicated instructions, brief and to the point.Nice big clear display (I can see it from a good 15ft away or more).Big stop/start button, could be an advantage for someone with joint problems.Cons....Perhaps the two smaller set/reset buttons could do with being bigger also.It only counts 99 minutes and 59 seconds, a slow cooker meal can take 4 - 6 - 8 hours. I agree with another reviewer who said maybe hour/minute increments would be better than minutes/seconds.The alarm is not loud enough, you may not hear it if you are in another room while people are talking. I want to leave my casserole simmering away in the kitchen while I get back to my movie/or conversation and know when it's time to go back and stir it. I'm going to have to take the device with me out of the kitchen. The magnet is not that strong, in a busy kitchen I may well want to adjust the timing with one hand while holding a cooking utensil in the other but it slides around on my fridge door when I try to adjust it one handed. I suggest a good blob of blu tack will help if you want to leave it in one fixed location. There is no on/off switch so it's consuming battery power all the time - when I know how long the battery has lasted I will come back and add that information.Overall -For the price I paid (£4 inc.delivery) I'm more than happy so far.

Salter timer
Neat little timer in a silver/grey plastic finish - very easy to use and with big readable numbers, so ideal to stick on the fridge and still see it from across the kitchen. Counts down from your set time in minutes or seconds (up to 99 minutes), or counts up from zero. Good loud 'beep' that goes on until you turn it off. There is a little magnet on the back that holds it securely to a metal surface, but if that surface is in any way curved, as with a fridge, you will need to steady the timer with your other hand when you set/start it. There is also a little drop-down stand at the back if you wanted to stand it on a shelf or work surface (the stand doesn't seem that robust, but does the job if you're not too rough with it)All in all an excellent addition to the kitchen - very pleased with this.

Not as good as my old one
I had a Salter digital timer for years until it fell onto the floor (very hard tiles) once too often and broke. So, I decided to buy another Salter as the previous had been so good.Initially I was very pleased with the new one as the look was updated and the digits display was nice and large meaning I didn't have to get my glasses out to see what time I was setting. However, after only about 3 months it began to go wrong. The stop/start button is a good size but only certain areas of it work. Sometimes you have to press it really hard to get it to work and then the timer registers that as 2 clicks so either doesn't start countdown at the start of a timing session or restarts it at the end of a session so after sitting down to eat you get disturbed by the beeping coming from the kitchen.Trying to set the countdown time can also be difficult as the minute button is either unresponsive or shoots past the time required. So, overall, it looks nice but doesn't do the job and after 6 months I need a new one.

It's ok, but not as good as the older models
Bought this to replace a 5-year old Salter timer, which suddenly died. It's smaller and far more flimsy in construction than the older models. The flip out stand at the back is very poor, fortunately it stays on our fridge via the magnet. The min/sec buttons are a little hard to press, and it's more like a digital watch alarm when it goes off. However it does count up as well as down which is quite useful. Annoyingly it also is powered by a watch battery rather than an AA/AAA battery which I suspect is why it's so quiet. It works fine, but doesn't appear well made and I can't see it lasting a long time. Salter quality has taken a serious dive.

Just the job.
Easy to use. Decent alarm that's not too loud but still easily audible.

Clear display but WAY too quiet
Easy to use, compact and with clear display, but this is described as having a 'loud' beeper, but it most definitely is NOT loud, so is very misleading. Poor. The timer on our new Bosch oven is pathetically quiet, and we have missed when it sounded on a number of occasions. Bought this timer as a supposed improvement, but really disappointed by how quiet it is. Unless you are in the same room when it sounds, it is too easy to miss it. Very poor for a Salter product. Have now now bought yet another timer which is brilliant. Be warned.
