Aercus Instruments WS2083 Wireless Weather Station + Free Beginner's Guide (eBook)

After reading hundreds of reviews I realised that even the best brands were having critical reviews. This led me to invest in a cheaper alternative and the Aercus Weather Station fit the bill.Setting up the station was very easy, and the long wires from the rain and wind gauge meant I could set up the "brain" (transmitter/temperature/humidity unit) in a shady, shielded location. This is crucial in order to get precise readings for temperature and humidity. Before writing any negative reviews as regards weather stations one must keep in mind that the placement of the humidity and temperature sensor is critical. Professional weather servers invest thousands in building the ideal housing (usually quite bulky) in order to have correct readings. Airports authorities invest a considerable amount of effort and money in order to meet the stringent standards for weather reporting.So one just cannot expect to tie up one of these consumer weather stations to a pole and get great results !Now for the weather station's pros and cons.Pros:Easy setup, with all the bits and bobs included... even zip ties!Very accurate readings (ideally set the wind to gust). I can compare my readings to the airport a few miles away, and another coastal station (I live on the seafront) and readings are spot on.USB interface easy to setup. I had my station set up to Wunderground.com in a few minutes.Cumulus software works a treat with this station.Build quality better than expected.Impressive long range reception. (I have mine set up over 15 meters away with numerous stone walls and two re enforced concrete ceilings blocking line of sight).Unit has survived and successfully reported gale force winds and torrential rain showers since setting up around 6 months ago.Weather forecasting is very good, and gets better with time due to its learning capabilities.Cons:Unlike some other stations which report rainfall/ wind/ temperature at various intervals, this unit updates everything every 40+ seconds. Would have liked to see the wind being updated at least every 30 secs maximum.Sunrise/Sunset, moon-phase and dew point are only displayed on the free (third party) Cumulus software (ie. the computer) rather than on the unit itself. Yet this is not a deal breaker when considering the accuracy and the price of the unit. Some other stations are not even compatible with Cumulus software.Summary: I must admit that I have become a bit of a weather freak since I got this unit LOL.... It actually is very involving and interesting. A perfect unit for anyone interested in weather monitoring and very informative for kids too.Update 8th March 2014. Unit still going strong despite being located on the seafront. I highly recommend this unit.

This is my second time purchasing this in two years. It's not ideal, but there's nothing better at the price. expect to replace outside parts every year or two if you live in an exposed area. I've never seen the wireless transmitter work at 100 yards, but at 20-40 its fine, which is all I need, and I expect that's fine for most people. The description of its ability to upload to your computer/ internet is very misleading. the manual doesn't explain how to do this at all - because the manufacturer has no input or connection to achieving this. it recommends a website, which is set up by people with an interest in weather recording. It's not so easy to download and set up, but can be done with a bit of patience and perseverance. this then enables you to transfer the data recorded, to a computer programme. this doesn't happen wirelessly, you need a usb cable (not supplied), with a male fitting at both ends, which is quite unusual. If you want to access your own weather info from work or abroad on holiday etc, you'll need to keep it permanently connected to your computer. Don't use rechargeable or cheap batteries, only use best quality. There's a lot could be improved upon in this set up, and I would willingly pay half the price again to get those improvements. Replacement parts are at least available, usually about 20 pounds or thereabout for each part except the main display unit, which fortunately shouldn't need replaced. I recommend this as the most value and useable set up for this price range, but I'm disappointed it's not a bit better all round.

Just what I wanted.It was easy to set up and after month I am starting to gather very interesting data.My only real problem is lack of info as to accessing a variety of different graphs/histograms from the mass of data.

This product worked very well for just over 30 months, then the signal from the weather station to the base died. Then after another couple of months the base itself stopped working.

Je n'ai pas encore testé la connexion USB.Mon seul reproche c'est que l’écran lorsqu'il est pose sur un meuble est a un angle de 30 degrés plutôt que 60-70 comme et pour le coup on ne voit pas l’écran a moins d'être juste au dessus. J'ai du l'appuyer contre un mur. On dirait que ça a été conçu pour être seulement fixe au mur.

Produit de bonne qualité, efficace et facile à installer. La communication avec le PC permet de stocker l'historique sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'avoir une liaison permanente.

je suis déçu de cet achat car la station fonctionne pas mal, est simple à monter, mais le logiciel est en anglais et est par conséquence , inutilisable pour moi.ne reste plus qu'à la laisser sur son support pour regarder les donner tous les jours et les relever sur un cahier comme avec une station plus simple et moins onéreuse; domage

Pas de chance, garantie expirée depuis moins de 2 mois et pluviomètre ne fonctionne plus. :/D'autre part, la fonction anémomètre ne sert pas à grand chose, la vitesse du vent étant énormément sous estimée.Difficile de placer la station à la fois au bon emplacement pour cet anémomètre ( loin de tout mur) et à la fois pour le thermomètre (à l'abri du soleil )...
