Q: This looks identical to a discontinued model I have some questions: 1) Is the shoe steel? (or aluminum..coated with teflon),

the shoe is steel coated with Teflon.

Q: Has anyone purchased this to adhere covering such as monokite, ultrocote etc., when building or repairing a rc (remote control) airplane?

I've used it to Laminate my Rc Wing builds three times and I'll be using it again on a fourth build soon! Also does a great job at forming vinyl car wrap at lower temps to stretch the film were needed.

Q: Exactly how wide is the iron's "foot"? I need to apply veneer to the bottom of a relatively narrow channel.

The base is about 4 1/2" long, and 2 3/8" wide at the widest point.

Q: what is the warranty? i bought this iron a few months ago and it will not heat-up.

I had the same issue with the iron no longer heating up after only a few months of use.
