Drive lasted 7 years in NAS. Died 2 weeks after showing signs of bad sectors build-up.
Worked flawlessly for 7 years. Died on a speed test. Was compatible with the Synology NAS I bought them for. Did show bad sectors build-up a few weeks prior to sudden death. On death the drive no longer starts up and double clicks on startup.

Great drives, shame about the clowns that package them
I’m expecting this review to be rejected as it’s not painting Amazon in a good light, but as there’s no way to complain I will continue to submit until I get a response, for as long as it takes! I’ve been using Ironwolf drives for some time now and they’re proving to be reliable, much better reliability than the old Barracuda drives from Seagate. My only issue is the clowns that package such a delicate piece of electronic hardware in a flimsy cardboard envelope. They’ll send out a pack of batteries in a two foot square box surrounded by air pillows, but risk damage to precision engineered mechanical hard drives in packaging that will happily fit through the letterbox only to go crashing to the floor doing all kinds of unseen damage (as the delivery driver has no indication as to how delicate the contents are...) No more hard drive orders from Amazon for me, the risk of damage is too great.

Great product. Poor amazon packaging
Product is great. Replaced a WDRed that failed in a light use home NAS after about 13 months. Will buy more of these in future they are quiet and quick.....and so far reliable. Only negative is the packaging that amazon delivered it in was basically the standard cardboard packing you would get a book delivered in so no padding at all so I checked it very carefully including a full surface scan before installing it into my NAS.

Early days, but so far so good
A little early to tell, as I've only had them a little while, but looking good so far. Bought 2 of these to replace a couple WD red 3TB drives for my main server, replaced fine in freenas 11. And the 2x 3TB drives went into my backup NAS. Haven't noticed any difference in operation at all, all going as well as ever, they may actually be a little quieter than the reds, but as I'm not that near the server most of the time wouldn't notice that much anyway, but they did sound quieter when the resilvering was taking place and I had the case open. Very good value, seeing as they were approx £20 cheaper than WD red 4TB drives at the time I bought these. Main reason I bought these over the reds though is that WD seem to be "foggy" over how much warranty these drives should have I have read in forums. These drives have the full warranty, I registered them soon as I got them, little tip, when you get ANY HDDs to save yourself problems down the road take pictures of the sticker so you have that info available for entering warranty details. I also use it for identifying drives if they fail, as the picture is named sda for example in freenas OS, then I know is is the first SATA connection drive... and I can locate that info on the seagate warranty page for requesting RMA for example. Hopefully it'll be a while before that happens as these drives are supposed to have a pretty good MTBF and amount of data writes per year.

Performs as advertised only over the first 1-1.5TB
Once you are past the first 1 -1.5TB the seek error rate goes through the ceiling and the performance drops in half. Actual data: This drive: ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000f 118 100 006 Pre-fail Always - 179237360 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000f 100 253 030 Pre-fail Always - 60121 A HGST Drive with which it is paired in the NAS for RAID1 purposes (gets same read/write requests): ID# ATTRIBUTE_NAME FLAG VALUE WORST THRESH TYPE UPDATED WHEN_FAILED RAW_VALUE 1 Raw_Read_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 016 Pre-fail Always - 0 7 Seek_Error_Rate 0x000b 100 100 067 Pre-fail Always - 0 So actually, as a NAS drive the right name is not Iron Wolf, it is Clay Mongrel.

Original HDD type for Synolgy DS218+ NAS
I bought this as a replacement for a failing drive in my Synology DS218+ NAS. Hot swap successful, rebuilt the RAD storage pool automatically, no errors, has been running since with no reported problems. The original drive began failing with increased bad sectors after nearly four years (35,000 hours) of continuous use. Its partner, still in the NAS is still going with no errors, (touch wood).

Good value for money
I bought this drive to use in an WD Diskless My Cloud EX4 Network Attached Storage - NAS - WDBWWD0000NBK-EESN It's a standard 3.5" sized drive so it slid straight in to the NAS system and once installed was formatted internally. It's a 4TB drive so after formatting the available space is around 3.6TB which is to be expected. The drive is cool and quiet when running, only making the occasional whir when spinning up and down so when sitting in my network cabinet it's inaudible above the fans in the NAS enclosure. Other have covered transfer rates so i won't repeat them here. As expected it's not as fast as a 7200rpm Barracuda but it's built for longevity over speed and when couple with another 3 rives in a raid array it's fast enough for multiple users to access concurrently.

Having run desktop drives for 5+ years, all of my NAS units failed within 1 week of each other. My 5 redundant storage systems became 1 last remaining. These disks are super fast and work perfectly in my Synology NAS systems. They are very quiet & a few degrees cooler than the desktop version. Time will tell if they outlast the Seagate desktop versions they replace. After 1 month use, zero reconnections or errors.

The harddisk works great. I use it for security so it is important that it makes no noise.
