Q: does anyone know how to connect this to play through an ordinary bluetooth speaker?, it says that you can but I cannot work it out

Yes, you can do that. The manual does not say anything about Bluetooth output from the receiver to a BT speaker or headphones but I managed to crack it (Yamaha, please pay attention as you seem to be losing customers due to badly written manuals). You need to use the Musiccast Controller App on your phone or ipad. Here is how. Step 1. Put your BT speaker in pairing mode. Step 2. In Musiccast Controller select the room with your receiver and select a music source, e.g. tuner or CD. Nb. DO NOT select Bluetooth as input source!. You will see the volume control at the bottom with a little equalizer icon on the right. Step 3. Tap on the equalizer icon. You will see "Bluetooth Transmission". Step 4. Tap on "Bluetooth transmission". You will see BT devices in range, so you should see the name of your BT speaker or headphones. Step 5. Tap on your BT device name to pair it with your Yamaha receiver. Step 6. Enjoy the music!

Q: Can you adjust the bass/ treble?

Yes, you can. There's an "Option" button on the remote control and it lets you adjust bass, treble, balance and it also has the "music enhacer" option, which works really well.

Q: Can I connect a Nas to this so I can play my collection of flac files

Yes you can i stream from a nas through music cast app Colin

Q: I have 2 old bookshelf speakers. can i connect them to this and my pc and use as computer speakers also?

You don't say whether the speakers are active, ( has an onboard amplifier) or passive need an amplifier? If the latter then yes provided they are suitable then you would connect to the Yamaha in the normal way and use your computer as a server on the app to play the music wirelessly from your computer.
