Faithful No. 7, IT"S Worth Your While
Received The Faithful N0. 7. The packing could use improvement as they used one strip of craft paper for padding, and so the parts came loose (blade, chip breaker and cap) caused a small nick on blade and some epoxy chipping. However it's a looooong way to the Caribbean. And so, it's forgiven. The plane itself came in working condition, popped the blade, etc. in and away we went; everything worked right out of the box, sharp enough. I'll hone it nice, LATER.The sole not perfectly flat, so I could flatten it on sand paper or leave it as is. I've used and use KANA planes and you know they have a slight hollow before the blade, well this plane happens to have it in exactly the same place. I tried it on some lumber and planed it perfectly straight, so why fix what isn't broken. And so, I'm happy with my new No.7 plane and wouldn't change a thing. You can't beat it for the price.I'm also happy with AMAZON.CO.UK, have made several purchases lately and everything has turned out fine. I usually shop from Amazon.com (America). Will shop here with more frequency, thanks.

Good Value
Considering the price paid, I wasn't expecting much, but this plane was surprisingly good quality.Apart from a quick sharpen of the iron the plane was ready to go, a bit more fettling to taste (smooth up the cap iron/chip breaker, round off the toe and heel). The sole was flat, the depth adjust yoke/'Y' lever was a nice cast part not stamped metal as you usually get on budget planes, and the tote and knob were well finished and secure. Overall it looks great and works well. For a beginner looking for a jointer you'd be hard pressed to find a better entry.

Adjusting Blade
Received it in good condition. Looks nice. Blade needs to be honed as per manufacturer instructions. NpOnly complaint is the adjustment wheel will not retract the blade below the planing surface, not even back to level or zero cut. I need to loosen the blade and pull it back by hand. Then I can readjust it outward with the wheel. It’s a shame because the rest of the plane looks pretty nice. They skimped on the adjustment lever it being a cheap piece of stamped metal. All in all it was the least expensive plane of this size I could find and will do the job. If you want real quality you’ll have to pay for it.

Great value for the money.
This plain is fantastic. Took me about 30 min to hone. Great wooden handles Fair better than a Stanley. And recommend this not only for looks and price is great. I have 5 Stanley plains but Faithfull plains a better.

Not terrible, but requires a lot of work before usable
Mostly the build quality is not bad, better than some other reviewers had reported. The sole is reasonably flat, the sides are square, and the blade holds an edge pretty well. But the whole package is spoiled by the terrible quality of the chipbreaker. The one I received was slightly twisted, with one side of the hump higher than the other, so the leading edge is not quite parallel with the blade. After a lot of grinding I just about got it to make contact with the full width of the blade, but it's still not great. Chips get caught in the gap far too easily, so I spend more time unclogging the plane than I spend on the planing. The Y-lever is also slightly twisted, which limits the amount you can advance the blade.

Excellent value for money
I paid £53 for a number 7 jointing plane. What could possibly go wrong? As it happens, nothing. I received my plane in a battered cardboard box, but the internal packaging was just enough to stop it getting damaged. I did what I do with all my planes - spent an hour or so quickly lapping the sole, honing the blade and generally setting up (including a drop of oil on the adjustment wheel), and this budget plane was up and running like a dream. I will be buying more Faithfull woodworking tools as and when needed.

Delivered with a massive crack in the body. Seriously disappointed.
Delivered with a massive crack in the cast iron body. No damage on the packaging. I did not get to use it at all and am seriously disappointed. How could it not be noticed in manufacturing or QA? I quite like this brand and the rest of the plane looks great, hopefully this is a one off! My new workbench will have to wait a bit longer :(
