Excellent value
I find Cotman paints excellent value for money. Artists regularly tell us student quality has less pigment and you are cheaper in long run buying artists quality. My experience is that is complete tosh. You pay 3 to 4 times the price for artists quality which at best is about 50% better. Cotman use substitutes for Cadmium Cobalt etc to get same hue not dilute the original pigment as some artists suggest. The price difference is out of all proportion. This set includes a good range of hues and earth colours to give you a good range of painting. The pallettes detach so you can quickly clean them in sink away from the paint. When they run out fill them up with tube paint. I found Curtisward offer best prices.

Lovely set!
As an experienced watercolour artist, I can say these paints are great for everyone and are of very high quality. Despite looking small to some these paints have some depth and last a long time. The colours themselves are accurate and very pigmented. They can be a little expensive to get the larger sets but I think for most the 24 half pan set is perfect. The included case is very useful - plenty of space for mixing colours and has room if you want to add additional paints. Nice of them to throw in a good quality brush too!

A good selection of colours and good quality paints.
This was given as a gift to someone just starting to enjoy water colour painting. It has a good selection of colours and a useful section for mixing colours, Good quality.

Good quality set of paints but box was extremely difficult to open
I have recently joined an art class and I am now attempting watercolours. I bought this set of paints on the recommendation of my art tutor. This is the brand which she herself uses. I had previously bought a much cheaper set of paints but she pointed out that the finish which they gave was very "chalky". This set was expensive but the finish is clearly superior to my cheaper set. You get a good range of colours in a convenient travel case. The case has trays for you to mix your colours in and also comes with one paint brush. My only complaint is that I found the box impossible to open. I took it, unopened, to my art class and found that both my tutor and another classmate had experienced exactly the same problem with their sets. Eventually, after some effort, my tutor managed to open the box for me and I was able to use the paints. Obviously, I had to close the box when the class finished and when I tried to open it again at home I could not do so! Eventually I had to use a knife to lever it open. This is ludicrous. Why has the manufacturer made it so difficult to open the box? Surely this is something which could be easily rectified? I have reduced my rating from 5* to 4* because of this.

Very pigmented and easy to use
Absolutely love my paints, they’re great for all levels of artists. They are really pigmented which is great and easy to use. They only problem I had was that all the paints come individually wrapped (I was expecting this) but the wrapping was difficult to remove and took me around 40mins to remove it completely. Once the packaging was off, the paints itself are brilliant

Good for the amateur painter
I was looking for a small, portable set of watercolour paints with a good range of colours and these fit the bill. A bit laborious at first to open all the little colour blocks but at least they arrive in good condition.

Good choice set
I considered getting a sketching 12 half pan set however this is much more versatile as the number of colours can be reduced or added to as there is room for another 8 half pans or some tubes. Excellent price under £14. Gives me additional versatility to supplement my limited range of tubes with a much larger range of colours at a low cost. There are additional mixing areas compared with sketching sets and it is not too big or heavy to carry outside.I would also consider getting the studio set if at a suitable price as i am delighted with this set and would recommend it.

Love it!
Received the promised product. Although the pans may seem too small if you're new to W&N half pans, but believe me when I say they do last. The quality is very good to say the least, and you'll find that although it considered 'Student Grade', it does not in any way limit your skills since many artists use these. Although I've went on to buy the 45 pan set, I still consider this set a little child of mine. The only thing I may say against this is that you can add a few pounds and get a 45 pan set instead, which would be more economical.
