Excellent product, I used to have the in tank Eheim pre-filter, swapped to this a few weeks ago. It gets an ugly piece of plastic out of the tank and holds the waste out of the tank (cleaning the Eheim resulted in waste getting released into the tank). It’s a good price hence 5 stars even with the following issues: weird pipe connector size (17mm), awkward lower inlet location, gets in the way of the lid clips and the lid clips are pretty naff, they have a tendency to fall off when open. But ultimately none of these are showstoppers

It has a lever on each connection that you can close and unscrew to clean the filter. Then you just connect the inlet pipe, open the leaver to let the water come in, connect the outlet and done. No mess, no fuss. Good as a prefilter. As many other reviewers, I have filled the main filter with media and I clean this minifilter once a week.

This is a great addition to an external filter system and acts almost as a pre filter to the main filter itself. It has separate taps to stop water flow to make it easy to clean, but I knocked one star off because it can be a real struggle to get the lid off to clean the filter media; and when you are confined in a small space it is a hassle you don’t need. I suppose that does prove the seal is good though! You can use it to add different media - I have used both polyfilter and zeolite, this is much less hassle than taking the main filter apart. As others have commented, the smaller hose connectors are included, just take the bigger ones off and there they are! Overall, a great bit of kit and well thought out.

Quality product, I bought this to add onto my 1000EF so I could separate the biological & mechanical media so I could fill them up with extra media to boost my filtration, so far so good, definitely recommend, this product makes no noise as there is no motor attached, boosts storage capacity, value for money, very easy to set up.

It arrived with a part missing. The package comes with a plastic bag containing the top filter attachment, this is meant to be for two hose sizes, my order was missing the larger size hose attachment which is normally screwed onto the hose attachment. I contacted Amazon and they said to send it back for a refund, I have not had an opportunity to do so being disabled. I have bought several of these allpondsolutions External Filter Boosters in the past on other sites and have never really had a problem with them. It can be very difficult to remove the top cover to clean the filters each week as the lid is suctioned on tightly and I need to get a knife in there to open it, this damages the unit and in time it will fail. A handle on top were I can twist and pull would solve this. Also, the unit is designed so the hoses just slip on, well, they keep slipping off when you move the unit spilling water everywhere. The hose attachments have a nice shut off valve so you can stop water flow so the hoses can be removed so the unit can be cleaned. The only problem is, the shut off valve for the return hose is on the section that gets unscrewed, so if you remove the hose water will flow out. The shut off valve should be before the section of hose that gets removed.

Very quiet as there no pump to it. Well made and come with filter media. Fast delivery. I would highly recommend this product. Made my water extra clear. One thing make sure you check the pipe dimensions as they might be different to yours. So you will need to purchase the pipe for it as it don't come with it. But still a very good product and good value for money. Very happy 😊

This little pre filter reduces the outflow of your main filter, just a point to keep in mind. Simple to set up and clean. I would have bought one with clear plastic to take away the guess work. This one is solid white.

Really pleased with this purchase. Used to have an Eheim professional + (can’t remember the model number) but it was a nightmare to clean and then prime (it hadn’t a built in pump). I got this and a small water-feature pump and it’s is a thousand times better. It’s a doddle to clean, and it actually does a fantastic job in its own right of removing solids. I have a lot of plants in my aquarium so they do the biological stuff that is missing from this - but if you use a bio-filter then this would be an excellent choice for a pre-filter as it is so easy to clean. As other people have said, there are a few niggles with it, like the clips come off when you clean it, the inlet position is inline with one of these clips which is awkward, and getting he lid off with wet hands and nothing firm to grip on is difficult, but for the price I can happily live with all of these minor niggles. If I build out my aquarium I will definitely use more of these filters.
