Works very well
I was a bit dubious of this product as Silverline is not know for making good tools but given the multitude of other positive reviews I thought I would give it a go. I am pleased to say I am pleasantly surprised and that it works very well. The block is huge and should last a considerable amount of time even if you would be using it on a daily basis. The block applies to a strop well and easy to get a even(ish) coat down onto the leather. I dabble in a little bit of knife making as a hobby and used it to hone the edge of my two latest knives and it quickly and easily polished the edge to a razor finish so sharp I could literally shave my arms with the knives (standard internet knife sharpening test... check out any knife sharpening video on Youtube). So I am very happy with my purchase and would certainly buy again and I will be trying the other versions of compound Silverline sell... shame they can't make tools that work anywhere near as well as this stuff.

This is good stuff
I probably don't know how to use it "properly"... I use a felt wheel on a handheld rotary device. I use this on edges that I've used whet stones with. It makes a lovely polished finish. I'm very happy with this. I use it to both polish my work to finish it and but that also allows me to see if there are any problem areas, (as the polished surface shows imperfections up). You get so much of this green stuff - that I don't know if I'll ever need any more! Value for money! But it really polishes ground steels.

Excellent value for money
Excellent value. Sometimes you buy these things and the size is disappointing but these are the size of half a house brick. As I'm 65 they will see me out, can leave them to my kids in my will.

10 Years on and it is regenerating
I bought this bar 10 years ago, I have used it relentlessly in my woodworking / sharpening journey. I've used perhaps 10% and I'm pretty sure I cut a large chunk off a few years ago to give to a friend. It will never end. It gives a mirror polish to chisels / plane blades. It will be used by my grandsons and their grandsons.

Great polishing compound...
I bought this primarily for use with stropping leather and it works excellently! The block is huge and will more than likely last a very long time. Like in years! I bought both the green and white compound. Application to the stropping leather is easy and it covers leather surface really well. Holds up well while sharpening a blade and does not scrape off the leather easily.I imagine it would work great with a Dremel or polishing wheel as well. Was able to achieve absolute razor sharpness on the blade with a visible smooth polished edge.

Great product, I imagine it would just as good ...
I bought it to add just that bit of extra sharpness to my dovo solingen razor and I noticed straight away that it was catching the hair on my arms (used as a test pre-shave). It is a HUGE 500g block by the way, and silverline also give you a lifetime guarantee on the standard packaging I received which you register for online, so you won't be running out anytime soon. Great product, I imagine it would just as good of a job on chisels and other metallic tools as a general all-purpose polisher to refine an egde. It is bit dry and hard but can be used like a crayon - which I did on the felt side of my strop for my razor.

Big bar, low price, excellent choice.
I use this for final honing of chisels and plane irons. I used to use the Axminster blue compound but since trying this I shan’t go back. Vastly superior and capable of burring and edge in honing. Sharpness much improved. Plus, the huge bar means I’m unlikely to misplace it like I do the smaller sticks.

I only do woodworking occasionally as a hobby, so this large block will probably last me for decades. I applied some on a piece of suede leather to polish my tools, and in over a year I haven't had to re-apply at all. Provides a nice, shiny finish to the edge of my chisels and plane blades after sharpening with diamond stones. Also good for quick touch-ups.
