Revolutionised My Cake Making!
I don't know why I struggled with a knife for so long!! I wish I'd bought this year's ago. I always dreaded leveling cakes because I just couldn't get it straight. Since getting this cake leveller, I've had no problems whatsoever. I've used it on a light genoise and on a denser chocolate cake and I get perfect results everytime. What works for me is holding the wire against the cake and then making small sawing motions back and forth, with the legs on the table to keep the level consistent. I take my time and I keep the cutting movements small and steady. This wire doesn't have 'teeth' like on a knife. I can only describe it as being wavy. It's a sturdy, well made product, but obviously with the wire being thin, a certain amount of care is needed.I definitely recommend this if you want an easier life!

Good quality
Worked really well. The notches are a must for making sure you're cutting your cake level.

Cuts even cakes
This cake slicer does produce nice even cakes but it can be a bit fiddly to use. Starting the cake off is the hardest part, where it can take a huge piece out of your cake if you’re not careful.I found if you start it off really slowly and when you’ve made the first slice, hold the top of the cake while you move it back and forth. I found you had to hold the cake where the slicer is going to come out from otherwise you might risk losing another piece coming out of your cake. This is a bit of an issue as I didn’t really want my hand being sliced with the wire. You can change the setting on it to the height you need. It is a little tricky and I was worried I was going to hurt myself. The wire is so taut, it’s hard to get leverage on it safely to change the setting. There is a knack however! If you hold the cake slicer in front of you lengthways with the side you want to change the setting on against you.. hold the top with one hand and with your index finger and thumb, push the wire away from you. This takes it out of its notch and allows you to move it to the setting you need without fiddling near the wire.I did manage to get even cakes without any injuries. It is a little annoying to store as it’s quite bulky. You don’t want it somewhere there could be an accident so I’ve had to store it on top of the kitchen cupboards.

It did the job
A good product for its price. It cut well after adjustments to the wire and it is a good size to have side to side movement for cutting. The handle is a bit small so harder to use/hold. All in all it got the job done with level slices so I'm happy.

Not very sharp
It's an ok product, but not very sharp and a bit awkward to handle

original model does what it says but new plain wire one a joke
i have been looking for one of these items fore some time and i have to say that it does a great job for any soft cakes, it is not suitable IMO for any heavy biscuit or fruit cakes as the cutting is done by a piece of wire with ridges along it. good price for the item as the heavy duty one from wilton is alot more expensive and may be more suitable for heavy cakes, cant say for sure but seems much stronger for anybody needing to cut fruit cakes.i have found that the method that works for me is to place the cake on a piece of parchment paper the size of the cake and catching the handle move the cutter from side to side while keeping your elbow and the cutter feet on the table, like a windscreen wiper. the method i found helps me but each to their own off to purchase a second one!march 2011 and i have just purchased another 2 costing almost half the price of the original one reviewed above but this new one states that the wire is serrated and when opened it was plain with no groves and i found that it drags through the cake instead of cutting like the original.pity they had to change the design but hapefully i can purchase original groved wire from kitchencraft.e-mailed kitchencraft on two occasions but no reply. i binned the newer models as they destroy cakes in my opinion. i hope the older one last a little longer as i intend purchasine the heavy duty wilton one in the future, it looks like it will cut fruit cakes also.Ultimate Folding Cake Leveler-

Good but might need a little help
Good for levelling cakes, although you might need to make a little cut with a knife to make it go through straight.
