Is there a minimum quantity you have to cook? There are only 2 of us and would like to make quick pasta sauce, risotto etc but in portions for 2.

The manual says 1L min combined solid and liquid which isn't very helpful (and that would seem to allow 1L of dried beans without any liquid which obviously wouldn't work). So far I have happily cooked for 2, but things which keep and reheat well (stews, soups, stocks, etc), so really I am cooking for 4-6 and having leftovers. A bigger challenge is, eg. rice using an absorption and a rice:liquid ratio of about 1:1.5 ... the official minimum would mean far too much rice for 2 (and it's supposedly not a good idea to keep leftover rice for long). So many people are happily going with minimum liquid quantities from other similar products. See the helpful review (and comments) on the hip pressure cooking website.

Has anyone tried porridge in this? I make it on the hob with lots of stirring and wondered if the risotto function would work with oats?

Its super for rice pudding - just pop ingredients in and leave on slow cook low or high... I expect porridge would work in same way!

How long does it take to cook rice ? Also where was it made ?

the set time for rice is 10mins ( this can be reduced , i did some rice last night with 6mins but was too short maybe 7mins, i like this however they dont tell you about the time before and after that it takes, so to preheat can take 5-10mins and then to release the steam at the end can take another couple of mins, so if you buying this, like i was to speed up dinner at night, then be aware that it wont, its main advantage is you can set it going and dont have to think about it untill its done

How good a vegetable steamer is it?

In truthI haven't used the steamer a lot, but when I have it is very suitable and only one container to wash!
