I have dogs that go on my grass can I still use the grass seeds and will it still grow xx

No. You absolutely MUST section off area to seed.  Relying on  shouting at yr pet to keep it off  useless as the h carry it in their paws, fur and  in windy weathers you’d be amazed how far it sprays. iUrine from dogs will kill established grass so think what it will do to a baby equivalent?   Don’t believe  hype around. Seeds for dogs and children etc tc like dogs n sprogs nonsense, they are GIMMICKS..Any company that says differently is lying.   Burned grass can NOT be  fixed.   Cut it out, start again,Concentrated nitrogen which is what diog urine is basically , will burn..end of.  Section two areas off..us e the second area , smaller if space is a problem,to use for turf once established for future fill ins and patching up especially with dogs around, you will be glad you did.  Use a seed dispenser. Theres a technique of left to tight and double drop sowing almost impossible to achieve by hand, you’ll just get clumpy uneven  turf, Fast grow seed is gimmicks,doesn’t work.   Germination relies on  HEAT in the soil..that’s all. 6 degree minimum . Cool soil will lay dormant until it’s reachers th right temperature. Once shoots appear it needs LIGHT.  Insufficient light whilst it is growing will make new grass. Stretch upwards too quickly in search of sunlight and results in  Weak and spindly growth.  Too much sun and and Your seedlings will scorch, soil I’ll be hard and  compacted,needing watering almost hourly?!!! It must remain moist but not wet at all times.   Wet soil rots seeds. Therefore  NEVER seed  after Mid /End june  in summer . Or before  end of April  in spring.IMHO best times are 3rd week in May  and  end of September ,this is when  soil has some warmth .frost will be unlikely and there’s  enough sun to feed  new growth. Don’t go by the packet for quantity. You need  70 to 90 grams of seed per m2 or 2oz per square yard depending on hat you are fixing, I know you haven’t asked this but when your have your lush grass you  start worrying about keeping it lush. NOTHING  you add to your dogs dinking water Such as  dog rocks can neutralise your pets urine and you shouldn’t even think of messing around like this for anyone reading this.   Dogs and grass =burns.  Hard work but you must daily flush the areas peed on with water and grass neutraliser and reseeding  
Twice  a year as described should be routine. .    section areas off completely, rake , then use pre seed fertiliser  three  days before seeding,    Us e the highest quality seeed you can afford that doesn’t have a specific target to market! Sow seeds with a dispenser and lightly rake again, keep moist but not wet, warm but not full sun.....It will,be three weeks before you will see  real growth and a FURTHER SIX weeks after that before you can tread on it. Sorry if this answer is overkill but I really don’t like to see people handing out BS.

can anyone suggest what soil do i need to top it up with and were can i find it cheap in stores in UK?

I just raked our ground loose and bunged the seeds on top + watered.

How much seed do I need for overseeding a lawn?

If you follow the instructions with any seed packet for grass, you will end up with an incredibly patchy lawn. Sow x2 it recommends. I did and got good results.Once you begin cutting the lawn 3 weeks in, the roots put up new shoots. :)

Question 4

Our lawn suffers from moss due to clay soil.  Will this seed be ok on clay soil once miss is removed

Dear Mr Springett, thank-you for your query.Sadly it can be quite a bit more difficult to grow grass seed in soils with a high clay content. However in saying that, there are steps you can take to help. For best results, you will need to break up the clay soil using a rake or other implement (allows aeration and deeper grass roots), add a layer of topsoil (2-3 inches is okay), use compost and gypsum (breaks up clay soil) and finally avoid over-watering the seed as this can compact the clay.Our grass seed does have strong roots, so while we cannot guarantee you will get the results you want in these conditions, it is a good seed to use.To help you with your lawn, I can offer the following; If you try the above method with our grass seed and you find it doesn't work out, contact us directly and we will issue you a free replacement or full refund.I hope we have been of some help, I'm well aware that clay and moss can be very frustrating!
