One of the best products for any purpose ever
I remember splitting firewood with a maul and wedges. What a pain. This product is absolute genius. You put the piece you want to split on the blade and give it a gentle tap. That seats the blade in the log and holds the log in place. Then you bang on it with a hammer or maul and it splits. So much easier, and so much safer. Works like a charm. Really sturdy cast iron construction. Honestly, just a game changer for this task. One of the most perfectly innovated, designed and produced products for any purpose that I have ever seen. I'd give it 8 stars if I could

Save time & energy splitting & making kindling
This is an amazing splitter, fun too, I was excited to see how quick & easy it was to use, especially for a female. I chose the XL version for bigger logs; it works great for smaller branches as well. Durable metal and easily posted down on a tree stump, definitely worth the money.

Can’t believe it works so well
Wife bought this for my birthday. Works like a charm. Makes splitting wood easier and can get the wood small enough for starting fires. Build extremely well. Can take a direct hit with a sledge hammer and not show any damage

Works Great - and is very safe
I am 66 now and splitting wood with an axe is a bit more challenging than it used to be - Typically I buy seasoned firewood from a local farm store and many of the pieces are too large to fit in my wood burning stove. This device makes it very easy to split these pieces- it still takes a bit of effort but way safer and quicker than the ax. This device also makes it very easy to make kindling size pieces. One thing that didn’t go well was the condition of the box it came in - it was practically busting out of the box- fortunately this item was not fragile so no matter. I bought the large 9” size and highly recommend it for cutting previously split large wood.

Good Product, does the job
This product does a nice job of making kindling out of bigger logs. I put 2 x 4s under the Cracker in an "H" shape and bolted the Cracker to the wood with lag screws. So far the Cracker has done a nice job, it seems to be holding up well after a couple of weeks. It is kind of pricey, but I tried a cheaper brand years ago and it was no where near as good. I thought about getting the smaller Cracker instead of the XL, but am glad that I got the XL.

One minor improvement away from perfection
I've used this for multiple cords of wood and it's been rock solid the entire time. Easy to install, really easy to use, though keep in mind that you need to make sure your rough logs are small enough to fit in.Ideally, install this on a base that's barely bigger than the feet, that way when you have longer pieces and want to split them there's room for them to drop down the sides. Otherwise, the partially split pieces can get caught up on whatever base you've got and you have to manually pull them away to finish the split. This is not an issue if you keep the logs to about a foot long in size though. My only improvement would be to have the bolt holes for installing it be complete circles as it would give a slightly better installation as the exact placement of bolts/screws holding it wouldn't need to be as precise. I had to install it twice as the first time the stump split under one of the lag bolts and I had to move it. You basically have to install one side as good as you can and snug it right up to the bolts/screws, hold it as tightly as possible against them, then install the other side. It's not that bad, but could be a bit easier. Once done though it's held great and I've not had any issues with it loosening over time.Keep in mind this is only going to be as sturdy as whatever base you put it on, so if you try to tighten it done on an older softer stump or equivalent it will definitely get loose, but that's an installation issue not a product issue.
