They are very solid and measure about 1/8 inch thick. I really like these buttons and have used them on two projects.

Q: Are these buttons coated or lacquered?

It's kind of hard to tell, honestly! Might have a thin coat of lacquer.....how ever, they look so natursl to me.....if your worried it will rub off onto your material, it does not! Have used them for crochet projects, and very well made!

Coconut shell buttons are natural buttons, it is better to dry cleaning

Q: I have a coat that has these and I need to be able to put fabric through the holes rather than sew them. Are the 50 mm big enough for that?

The holes aren't very big but I think if you taper the fabric you might be able to do it.
