Holy crap, this is not kidding around (it's good?)
After the pandemic hit and my gym closed for the foreseeable future, I've been trying to figure out some indoor stuff to do (not a great/dedicated outdoor exerciser, unfortunately). This seemed like a sweet spot between cost and quality - I read a ton of reviews for various products - so I ordered it to add cardio to the weights I have. Um, it is cardio-revving, for sure, but consider this resistance training as well, and it is a beast. You're not going to be able to "just do this" for your standard cardio workout or anything close to it. I generally do pretty high intensity elliptical for 22-25 minutes, and in my first try today, I could barely do 15 reps (seconds). I wound up rotating "sets" of 10-15, resting longer than that in between, for several minutes, doing several rounds of that. Sweaty. And it's definitely working THE HECK OUT OF my glutes, abs, and upper arms. I just need to figure out a workout routine on this thing going forward. I could feel a temper tantrum coming on when I opened up the very small-print, dense directions. But actually, it came together beautifully and easily. It's really well considered, and the bolts and nuts come already in their spots (you take each nut off to attach pieces to each other, but this way you have an immediate sense of where things go). In a mere single use, granted, the motion was smooth, it felt stable - though I can't see a big guy using this (my 175lb teen son might be able to, but I'm not sure). Definitely solid for me at 136lb, 5'5". UPDATE: WOW. This is way better than I thought. I missed the back few pages of the assembly guide that offer directions about how to make adjustments to the machine in order to moderate intensity. This comes set as the most intense (highest resistance) mode. But by changing the seat post height and reducing from 3 to 1 the connection of the resistance bands (if you buy this you'll know what I'm referring to), I can now absolutely use this as a more regular cardio device - it still kicks my butt, but much closer to standard cardio (I was able to do 20 minutes, in 2 blocks, working up a heavy sweat vs. my standard 22-25 minutes on a gym elliptical with medium sweat). So this can really be used, in an intense setting, as more resistance tool, and at a lower setting, as more cardio. This is quite a great option for home exercise.

Compact, sturdy, good quality.
This seems like a stable, easy-to-use upright rowing machine. Set-up took about 25 minutes (including interruptions from the dog) and even though some of the written instructions were vague, the accompanying illustrations made things clear. It might be nice to have a guide for setting the seat and handlebars based on the user’s height. It is small enough that I think it will fit next to my folding exercise bike and weight bench without being in the way when it isn’t in use. I haven’t used it for a full workout yet, but I tried it out for a couple of minutes and it glides smoothly. I had back surgery a couple of months ago and I’m looking for ways to strengthen my core without putting too much stress on my back. It is getting boring just to use the exercise bike, so I think this will add some variety to my workouts. Overall, I’m very satisfied.

Great quality. Sturdy. Easy to assemble.
Great quality. Highly recommended. It folds up; easy to store. Very sturdy; doesn’t wobble during use. I was able to assemble this in less than 30 minutes. The box was heavy, but once it’s assembled it’s easy to move.

Good But Not Built for Taller People
PRO: The Smart Row is a good product. It is sturdy, and relatively safe and easy to assemble and use. The design is simple, and you use your body weight/strength to operate. Also, it doesn't take up a lot of space. You get a pretty decent squat and stretch workout. CON: The seat doesn't have enough padding. The seat height is pretty low, making it awkward to mount/dismount if you are 5'7" tall or over. I would recommend.

WOW!! What an unexpected workout.
Updated after 10 days of use: I have been using this product for 10 days, 15 minutes a day, pulsing for 30 seconds every 3 minutes otherwise using a full range of motion. After 4 days I felt confident to start using 1 resistance band during my 15 minute workout. I was able to burn 100 calories in a 15 minute workout. I lost 2 inches on my hips ONLY adjusting my workout routine by using this product. Day 1: black pants. Day 10: gray pants. Noticeable tightening and toning. No weight loss. Day 1 of use: First of all, I bought this machine used on here with a major imperfection for $42. I figured it was worth a shot after looking at the dB method and realizing that it was out of my budget. Honestly, I liked this one more because this one also works the upper body. The imperfection on my machine was a missing bolt that allowed the seat to communicate with the handle bars—I just found a bolt wah-lah! And the monitor came completely smashed. I wasn’t planning to use that anyway since I look at my Nokia fit screen for my calories and heart rate ( I have a heavy duty stand that attaches to any of my workout equipment to display it). Anyway, the machine provides a superb workout. I already have larger thighs but need some toning in my glutes so I was worried that this machine would over work my thighs, and was looking for a machine that isolated my glutes. What I can say is that with this machine, you feel no burn in your calves, but you feel an intense burn in your lower mid back/butt, and latts. I never thought I would own a piece of cardio equipment that worked out the lower back so efficiently. I would NOT rely on this machine to tone your upper back and arms. You are going to need a rowing machine for that. BUT WOW, this machine is so worth it because it does isolate the glutes, and an unbelievable lower back workout that is way more fun than Superman’s. I have a resting heart rate of 48 and I did this machine for 10 minutes and my heart rate was a steady 130 the entire time with no added resistance bands. It’s not a great cardio exercise, but it’s awesome that it is isolating key muscle groups that are really hard to isolate on any other machine. ONE THING TO NOTE. On the DB website it shows you can isolate your triceps by working out with the seat, you can also do that with this seat as long as you put 2-3 resistance bands on the seat. You cannot work your abs with this seat because it’s not piston driven—it’s driven by your own body weight with resistance bands. Hope this helps you guys. If you are considering this machine even for a moment, it’s seriously worth it. Best Buy I’ve had in awhile.

The set up description in the manual was a bit confusing initially but This was very easy to set up. Only 8 simple steps! I’m using the Sunny fit app and their YouTube videos for my workouts. It’s so much more than a squat machine. Arms, back and chest too! If you want an all in one equipment to use at home, don’t sleep on this one.
