National Geographic Kids Look and Learn: Patterns! (Look & Learn)

very educating book especially for over three years olds...
The look and learn series of National Geographic books are among the favorites in our house. I have two kids at the ages of 3.5 and 1.5 and these books match their age levels perfectly. All books in this series are a 4.5 X 4.5 inches square with 22 pages with classical board book design so that younger children can enjoy it without tearing the pages. The binding is of good quality and the colors are vibrant. The target age group (as stated on the book) is 1-4 years. However, as an owner of almost every book in the series, I can say that some of the books are designed for slightly younger side of the age range whereas some are for the older.I can say that this book belongs to the second category. Anyone younger than 3 years old would struggle going through the tasks in the book and for those I recommend other books in the series like baby animals National Geographic Kids Look and Learn: Baby Animals (Look & Learn) , dogs National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Dogs (Look & Learn) , colors National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Colors , shapes National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Shapes! (Look & Learn) and count National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Count . On the other hand, Match National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Match , same and different National Geographic Little Kids Look and Learn: Same and Different and patterns (this book) offer a good challenge for 3-5 years olds. This book consist of two sections. The firs half is about the surface patterns like dots, stripes, spots and plaids with various examples from nature and household goods. That bit is slightly easier and can be well understood by younger children. However the second bit focuses on repetitive alignments of objects. The child is supposed to identify the pattern and make a guess what should come next. For example there are two blue balloons followed by an orange one in a repeating fashion on one pictures and it asks what the pattern is. The last page is a quiz and that quiz has 4 difficulty levels (according to the number of different objects repeating in the line)I honestly find the gradually increasing challenges in the book very educating and I am happy for this purchase. The only thing to keep in mind is to know where to stop since kids may get discouraged when they fail to complete a task.

All of the Little Kids books are great!
This was bought for our 3 year old grandson. As a long time National Geographic subscriber I was interested in these books for our grandson and have bought over a dozen of these for him along with a subscription for the Little Kids magazine. He loves them and it amazes my wife and I how fast he learns them!! All of the Little Kids books are great!
