Product Description Young couple Paul (Justin Long) and Anna (Christina Ricci) are toying with the prospect of marriage when they have a chance encounter with Eliot (Liam Neeson), a mysterious undertaker who claims he can speak with the dead. When Anna becomes caught in the otherworldly realm between life and death, she risks being buried alive. Will Eliot help her, or is he being driven by darker motivations? desertcart.com Quite a few folks in the movies have seen dead people, especially since The Sixth Sense, but After.Life gives this by-now-familiar conceit an intriguing spin. As director-cowriter Agnieszka Wojtowicz-Vosloo's 2009 film would have it, the deceased aren't exactly dead. At least not yet; in the days between whatever killed them and the moment they're put in a box and lowered six feet under, they're caught in some kind of purgatory, no longer alive but still able to move and communicate. Not to everyone, of course; only Eliot Deacon (Liam Neeson) has the ability, be it a gift or a curse, to converse with these infernal travelers as he readies them for their final rest in the basement of his funeral home. That's where he meets Anna Taylor (Christina Ricci), who died in a car crash following a nasty argument with her boyfriend, Paul (Justin Long). Anna, not surprisingly, is in denial. How can she be dead, when she can still walk, talk, and experience emotions? Well, it's complicated, but Eliot's there to help her sort it all out--that is, unless he's up to something considerably more sinister, a question that remains in doubt even at the very end. After.Life has a cool concept, a good look, an ominous vibe (driven by former Tangerine Dream member Paul Haslinger's relentlessly spacy, downbeat musical score), and some fine performances. But movies like this depend on the rules and boundaries the filmmakers establish. In The Sixth Sense, those rules ("dead people don't know they're dead," etc.) are simple and consistent. Here they're a bit more confusing. How can the deceased wield a knife, open a locked door, or even make a phone call? If Anna is dead, why can she still see her breath on a windowpane? The willingness to accept such things may well affect one's appreciation of this very absorbing film. --Sam Graham Review: Movie - Good movie, disturbing but a good watch Review: Oh Oh The Afterlife. - Yes there are plot holes, yes there are quite a few things in this movie that probably wouldn't happen in real life but then again I think that is why they call this a movie and not REALITY. I truly enjoyed this movie and thought it was pretty well done, maybe not the best movie of all time but most certainly not as terrible as it is made out to be. Let's be fair here and examine just a few gripes with the movie. First of all this movie is NOT a documentary, if you wanted to see how real dead bodies are examined then watch Dr.G THIS is not your movie. I am extremely sorry that you can't take something for what it is. Second is the plot holes, yes chances are that the body would go through WAY more examination to get to a mortuary table than just a few coroners and a quick medical examination but to be fair we are told that this is a small town and we are also made aware that Liam Niesson's character is fairly well liked and respected in the town. So would it really be out of the realm of possibility for him to have connections within the coroners office and or from medical examiners on the scene? What is the motivation? well it could be anything. I hope people do know that Morticians make quite a deal of money for what they do. Is it out of the realm of possibility to say that he could be bribing the medical examiner and coroner just so he could get his very sick jollies? I don't think so. Yeah the twist really wasn't all that well veiled but then again it wasn't all that poorly done either. I won't bore you with too much detail and give away too much but overall I would have to say that this is a refreshing look at the horror genre that has been on the slab for years. It's definitely not perfect but it's something new and different for a dying genre. If you can put yourself in the position of the character it is a very suspenseful movie with a lot of great imagery. My gripe is that it is extremely long and I thought it would have been better had it been shorter which may not have given the story AS much development but probably would have been better for those with short attention spans that need to watch things explode every 5 minutes. It does get a little muddled but I can say this film has a lot of character and redeemable qualities.

The Sixth Sense or Cruel Intensions
I watched this movie late at night and have to say it's pretty awesome. The storyline is slow and you have to be pretty awake to watch it but any movie that causes me to think about it the next morning is a pretty good movie to me. The good: * Storyline - Is Anna Taylor (Christina Ricci) dead or alive. Keeps you guessing even after the conclusion * Plot - Does the caretaker have special powers to bring the dead alive or is he seeing ghost that have the ability to interact with the real world. Is the little boy dead or alive? * Characters - Christina Ricci's character was developed enough that I cared about her. I sort of cared about her boyfriend. I cared about the little boy. The caretaker, not so much. The caretaker already seemed like he was dead inside. A little boy's mother had too much of a ghost look on her face. The paraplegic mother reminded me of some of the people in my life that I really don't like. The bad: * Slow progression - Takes forever for the storyline to get anywhere * Low Climax - Don't expect a major climax. Small anti-climax. Just kind of expect it to be there. * Little Action - Nothing really happens. It's more about the story. * The ending - It just kind of ends and leaves those to wander. Overall, I would recommend for $7 or less. More than that and it seems like a waste of money.

Great Service but Meh Execution
The 5 star is due to the condition of the disc. Nothing against the actors and actress just felt the movie just drag until the end credits. Not a fan of the execution of the story. Sorry!

You'll see Ricci's goosebumps...
...but this film won't give you any goosebumps of your own. The plot is simply too slow-moving. While the premise is creepy, the story just plods along. The acting is okay, but the cast had to make do with a really terrible script. (Example: the dialogue consists mostly of characters asking "Am I dead?", and similar questions, over and over again.) In any case, I though the film was different enough to warrant a 3 star rating. It's not something I'd watch again, nor is it the type of film that "stays with you" after you've seen it.

Strange-very strange
Strange and chilling story well done. If morgues and morticians bother you, please avoid as you may be repulsed. Came fast as expected and seller was fine. Print has bright colors and nice transfer. Story too convoluted to do here, perhaps in another review.

Anna, after fighting with her boyfriend, is involved in a car accident and awakens in a funeral home. The attendant tells Anna she is dead, but it takes time for Anna to come to terms with her situation. Meanwhile, Anna's boyfriend Paul becomes increasingly suspicious of the behaviour of Eliot, the funeral director, and begins to investigate what really goes on behind the doors of the funeral home. This is a film with a good cast and it has an interesting idea to explore. Unfortunately I just wasn't convinced with what they were trying to sell me right from the start, and the movie delivered one of the two endings that I had envisaged from the very first scenes. There's nothing particularly wrong with the film but it has a linear story that takes a bit too long to tell. We spend a lot of time in the funeral home listening to conversations unfolding but this doesn't generally drive the plot forward - there are just lots of words. While the main idea is fascinating the filmmakers just seemed to coast across the top so it all feels a bit shallow. The film comes up well on Blu-ray with a clear and sharp picture, although it sports a very drab colour palette, particularly on the morgue set. My Australian disk has a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio track which makes some good use of the surround channels, and importantly, voices are clear.
