GREAT Rack!!!!!
This trailer hitch bike rack performs as advertised.....easy to use, holds both of my ebikes securely, and I have complete access to the bed of my truck. I was surprised how easy it is to remove and reinstall the rack after a lot of reviews claim that it is too heavy to do so. Leverage and physics folks.....learn how to make them work FOR you!!

Is it weird to be excited about a new bike rack?
Unboxed and setup the RockyMounts Backstage rack tonight. The rack was well packaged and arrived unscathed via UPS. I will be using this with a 2002 Chevy 1500 HD and a 2017 KIA Sorento. For the inital setup, I fitted it to the KIA. Setup was a breeze. The majority of the rack comes pre-assembled and it only took about 30 minutes to get through the entire process (I did watch several videos on setting it up and operating it so I was well prepared once it arrived.) It fits well on the KIA and unlike others, I can roll into and out of my garage with the bikes loaded on the rack. However, even with the anti-wobble pin installed the rack did seem to want to wobble back and forth a bit. I don't think this will be an issue, though. I don't plan to use the swing away feature when fitted to the KIA because the hatch clears the bikes when the rack is tilted down. I will be using that feature when fitted to the truck, however. The RM website specs this rack to be used with bikes up to 49" long. My Scott Genius 920 (29er) is 48" long and you can see in one the photos how far it hangs off the wheel cup. The front wheel is stopped with an integrated wheel stop so it can't go any further off. While I was waiting for the rack to arrive, I almost bought a set of the metal locks instead of the plastic ones this rack ships with. I was pleasantly surprised to see the more expensive metal locks included in the box already. I'm glad I didn't order the additional locks. This rack is big and heavy so plan on reserving a fairly large area in the garage for it. I'm waiting for RM to get the wall hanger back in stock so I can get it out of the way. For $20, they should include that as part of the package! Overall, this is a well-built, sturdy rack. I'm looking forward to years of use! UPDATE: I've been using this rack since August 2019 with no issues. Everything has held up well including the straps and the hook/trigger for the front wheel. Don't be mislead by the top negative review from the guy dropped his bike because the hook/trigger didn't secure the front wheel. This rack is NOT designed for bikes with front fenders and his pictures clearly show metal front fenders on his damaged e-bike. On a side note, I'm considering converting it to a non-swing away rack by replacing the base. RockyMounts customer service confirmed it's doable using either MonoRail or SplitRail LS bases. I just haven't used the swing away option as much as I thought I would.

Quality product!
This is solid, well built, and super easy to load and operate. The bike rack fits our 2 Lectric Lites on the back of our Promaster Class B Camper Van perfectly while still allowing access to the rear doors.

Overall Good but Possible Design Problems with Carrying Road Bikes. Poor Customer Service
I bought this rack because I wanted to go to a tray type rear carrier as vs. a hanger (which did not work well with one of my bikes). The Rocky Mounts rack does a very good job with my full suspension mountain bike but there are problems with my road bike (unexpected because it meets their specifications). In the case of the problems with the road bike: (i) the hook that holds the front wheel seems like it must put stresses on my Dura-Ace caliper brakes. In order to hold the bike, the hook is between the frame's head tube and the back of the calipers (I mounted the bike as per their instructions). Any other arrangement does not hold the bike well (and even this one does not work well with my road bike, see (ii) below). Also see notes about my attempts to contact their customer service about this issue, below. There is a photo showing how the hook is placed and the potential problem with the calipers. (ii) Once the road bike was mounted and seemed secure, I have found that it had a tendency to move more than I was comfortable with (see a version of this movement in the movie) -- the front wheel eventually projected strongly to one side of the car (I could see it really well in my side view mirrors) and the bike ended up quite loose after only 6 miles of round-the-town driving. I tried several fixes but the problem kept cropping up. Others have made similar comments. I ended up using a Velcro strap to tie down the front wheel and that took care of the problem (see photo). I recommend that anyone buying the rack consider doing this -- but I don't think I should have had to resort to this to get the bike firmly in place. (Perhaps this is a general problem with tray carriers?? -- I don't know.) Customer service -- I tried to contact customer service three times for advice on my issues with the road bike and, when I called, I ended up in a queue that was after 10 - 20 mins of waiting abruptly cut off; I also tried RM's web form and was promised a reply but never got one. My experiences with their customer service in the past were much better so I have no idea what is going on if this is typical. Assembly -- the instructions were pretty good (8.5/10 for not being confusing) and assembly took about an hour. Screws and fittings were generally OK, with a couple fittings being a bit difficult, but in my experience, it is typical for few items to not thread well. Swing out works well! -- Overall good but I am still concerned especially with carrying road bikes with caliper brakes.

Pay attention to the pivot points
I just received the rack and finished assembly, when checking the swing to make sure it clears the side of my truck the second pivot point right under the tray did not swing leeding me to think it would not clear the truck as advertised. How ever it seems I over tightened the pivot bolt binding the pivot. Once I corrected the tension on the bolt it works like a charm. All the parts fit nicely and seem to be of good quality. I have not had it out on the road yet but the bike feels solid on the mount.

The product is so sturdy and a great design, plus it reasonably easy to put together. We have a four inch tire electric bike and my Mountain bike and there was minimal sway when driving. We now have access to the back of our Ford Transit connect, without having to take off our bikes. It arrived on time and the packaging was outstanding. Highly recommend this product!!
