Very Strong/Supportive Piece of Hardware
These brackets/vertical standards are great! They are heavy gage metal and are easy to install on any wall. Be sure to have NUMBER 10 WOOD SCREWS if you are putting them on standard drywall with 2 x 4 wall studs at i6 inch centers. You have to be CERTAIN that the heads of the screws CANNOT pass through the mounting holes. You can use bevel headed or round headed screws, just be SURE the heads of the screws cannot pass through the mounting holes.Another feature that is a big plus is the dual slots for mounting the shelving brackets onto the vertical standards. This allows for much more weight to be place upon the shelves that are going to be placed upon the brackets.Oops! Forgot to mention that if you are going to place these shelving units on standard residential walls be CERTAIN to screw the vertical brackets into the WALL STUDS! These standards can be placed on hollow walls using wing-bolts but in doing so you will be cutting down the maximum weight the shelves can hold. Also, if you overload your shelves the attachment hardware can actually pull through the drywall. This would really be "disappointing" to say the least. These things work well----buy them!

A minor Mod makes these more versatile
First I want to say that the packaging was the best Iv'e seen in all my Amazon purchases, rest assured that they will arrive undamaged. If you plan on screwing these to the wall without using the rail then by all means just buy them. If you plan on using the rail which I am going to do; I see no way of using these without a slight Mod. You could slide these onto the rail without the mod but you will be faced with limited location options. You will not be able to locate the shelf hanger over the stud because there is a screw at that position and you can't slide it from the end over the fastener that is holding the rail to the wall. You could put all the shelf hangers between the studs and then screw the rail into the wall (at the studs) but then the hangers would be offset to the studs and attaching additional fasteners through the hanger would not hit the studs.I chose the least invasive approach and just lopped off the top edge of the hanger. The hanger on the left is of the original hanger and the hanger on the right is of the modification. I saw other options as well but this was the quick and easy fix.The hanger will now drop into the rail after the rail is attached to the wall and the stud locations can be used. You still can't slide the hanger past stud locations after installation but you can lift the hander out and reposition it to wherever you want. The "Everbilt" brand of shelving sold at the big box store, well the orange one anyway, allows for sliding of the hangers due to cut outs in the hanger. I actually prefer that style of shelving for that reason alone but I will be keeping these. Prices between the two are comparable. These are made of good quality material here in the USA !

Only slightly different color than I wanted. Sprayed over with Rustoleum Bronze. Problem solved. Recommended.
