Dear Bookworm, Thank you for Asking. Our solid wood beard comb is made from Verawood (palo santo known for its woodsy fragrance). We source this wood from Argentina and Paraguay. Verawood is green sandalwood, and has the natural fragrance of sandalwood, but it does not belong to the same botanical family. The proper scientific name is Bulnesia Sarmientoi

Q: how do you clean/sanitize it without ruining it?

Dear Some One, Thank you for asking! You can wash this with soap and water. We would recommend a mild soap and then let allow to air dry (drip dry). You can clean it just as you would the wooden implements you might use for cooking. And, every few months, you might gently rub it with fine sand-paper to renew the scent.
