REVIEW: WD Blue SSD, SA510, 2TB 2.5", SATA, Read speeds up to 560 MB/s, Incl. Acronis True Image
Product arrived timeously and clearly good quality befitting the Western Digital brand image/promise. Once installed it works well, as expected. Install/usage instructions to install/use, etc. are not that great, got to say, and can be described as reasonably acceptable. No doubt at all that WD could/should have made the process a whole lot easier .... disappointing. As WD and SanDisk are now clearly part of the same group and it therefore needs to be clearly explained (PLEASE NOTE, WD!) that SanDisk is now the lead brand / product and that, for instance, management of WD products seem to clearly be via the use of SanDisk software, etc. Thus, a whole lot of "greyness" pervades around the implications of both these brand names existing within the same company. I would imagine that non-techie / newbies to SSD installation to replace their HDD's would find this process unnecessarily difficult. One has to ask the question why the greyness around this modern, popular SSD usage, etc. to replace one's older technology HDD's? Weird ... Deserved criticisms aside, as mentioned, the WD SSD is good value and, once properly installed, works well. Newbies can trust the delivery of this WD SSD but will be a little challenged in finalising the installation/usage/management process. As a new, working SSD therefore, once properly installed, I can recommend the quality, speed and expected reliability expected from the WD brand name/promise. Make sure, however, that you go through the frustrating, clunky process of registering the disk, otherwise any possible future failures will not be honoured.

Great drive.
Replaced my old struggling SATA SSD drive with this.. It worked a treat and I replaced my SSD in my laptop using the bundled software in short order. You went to the sight and followed instructions and did what it said. Writing this now using my new 1T drive!. I used a SATA external gantry and a converter caddy. It was really easy.

Internal SSD
Came quickly and a good price, includes WD installation software. Unfortunately, when I opened the laptop there was no slot for it, so it is as yet unused.

Decent speed
Good speeds read/write, build quality seems good, reasonable price, just plug it into the sata port on your motherboard and forget it

Do a search on this SSD before you buy! It can brick itself - critical firmware bug
There is a firmware bug in which the SSD stops being detected by the computer. Once this happens, it is nearly impossible to get your data back. Western Digital released a firmware update to fix this issue, and YOU as the buyer, need to check and update your SSD before your WD SA510 SSD dies. I bought mine in March 2023 and it died Jan 2026. I'm fairly tech literate but I do not religiously follow tech news, therefore I never got this warning about this critical firmware issue. Search: "WD SA510 SSD critical firmware bug" and save your money and time.

So far so good.
I've had this for over 5 months now, and so far I've not had any issues with it. I needed a quick replacement for my dying HDD for my PC, so got this as it was available for next day delivery. I use this SSD for my games, and I'm able to play them just fine. Read and write speeds are as expected. There's obviously a noticeable difference between the performance of this SSD and my still dying HDD. If anything changes, I'll update my review.

Works in Toshiba Satellite P50 C 18k
I didn't really need to upgrade my existing 250g SSD that my laptop came with. Even though its just a 6th gen I5, its been running Windows 11 for several months without any problems so I decided it would be good to do a clean install. If I am going to do a clean install I might as well change the SSD at the same time. Ideally I would have installed a Samsung drive as I have plenty of experience with them, but it seems that their M2 Sata drives have disappeared from the market. I saw this one on Amazon and the price is amazing and WD have a good reputation. Clean install was very easy - massive improvement since the old days of 13 floppy discs with windows 3.11. There has been a very noticeable improvement in boot up time (which wasn't bad before) which is in part due to the clean install but I guess the new SSD is contributing. If you are tempted - go for it. Keep the old drive and buy an external USB case for it so you can transfer any old documents etc to the new drive. The only program that I use that has a demand on processing and memory is Cubase 12 pro and this is working fine - I do have 16gb of Ram that the laptop came with so that helps.
